OK, having thought about things a bit more, I'm pulling back from my "the swapper is evil, full stop" stance a bit. I still won't use it online, and probably won't even download it, but I do think saying "you're a cheat" to people who do, and are open about it, might be a step too far. I don't agree with their thinking, but to call them dishonest is pushing it. *With that in mind, apologies to Dave Powell*[1] It does seem that there is a consensus emerging that tweaking VROC to allow an extra hosting flag isn't beyond the bounds of possibility - though apparently one particular person needs to be contacted first to sort some things out. (Why the hell is this code in the hands of just one person, anyway? I'm not suggesting making VROC open-source - though it's an interesting idea! - but it's idiotic not to have a backup person.) *If* VROC can be tweaked successfully, then yes, I think there could be a place for an "open" formula, where "anything goes", though I doubt I'd ever go over to Brab-Hondas or Cooper-BRMs. I still don't like "mix'n'match" speacials - especially as the one race I've been involved in with one produced a completely artificial finish - but it has to be said that a fair number of people disagree with me, and why shouldn't they? The 1.1 patch, with its accelerated clock, was a big problem in terms of laptimes, and that was sorted by getting a version detector into VROC. I'm hopeful the same can be done this time. [1] This would have been better said on #gpl, but apparently you get kicked if you even mention the thing at the mo (which doesn't help things at all IMO, but there you are). -- David. IMagine if your company only had one person with admin rights to your network, and that person left without telling anyone else the password. Problems! -- David.
