Sorry guys, I've lurked here a lot and read a bunch of threads about N4,
and I gotta wonder what the hell was going on when they released the demo.
I gotta suspect a large part of the game is going to be the AI; since
there ain't no AI in the demo, the physics is up to snuff (courtesy GPL, I
gather) and they finally did figure out that clicking on "Rendition -
Verite" just wasn't a huge happenin' kinda thing, that they could put out a
demo that was better than, oh, say...well....put the mag disc back in and
find one.
Dear god this is pathetic. Just look at the in-car wheel (forget
just how far you have it cranked to the right on your wheely-wheel) and
compare that with ANY in-car footage of any WC car for the last, oh, well,
as long as they've had in-car cameras. Yikes. It's beyond being anal about
accuracy, it's just stupid.
I'll refrain from commenting on the grotesque sounds. Ugh.
I kinda like the good old days, when demos were sales tools. This is
some sort of freakish experiment.
Maybe you should stick to "lurking". In case you missed it this isn't a
finished product. This is a pre-release alpha version of N4 it's not meant
to be a "sales tool". How on earth you can consider anything in this sim
"pathetic" is beyond me. Granted there are a few things that I hope are
improved by the release date but as a whole it's a terrific demo.
Papy hasn't been known to make very good decisions regarding supported
hardware for it's software (Rendition, Glide, A3D) come to mind. But... At
least they try to push the envelope.
As far as the "wheely wheel" you mention goes it really isn't to difficult
to understand why the wheel doesn't turn as much as a cup car. It's called
limited range of motion on most PC steering devices. Is this a fault of N4?
Perhaps you can design a geared wheel that will give you the required range
of motion, but don't blame papy. BTW I usually try to set the car up so I
don't have to make any right hand turns at either Mich or Dover :-). You
also have the option to turn off the in-car wheel (unlike other sims).

Your Lap times will improve. Try it...
It's far more distracting than you would think.

Exactly. Read more closely. It's a TECH DEMO, not a game demo.

Er... if the release date's still Feb then the demo pretty much represents
what we'll be getting! There's not a lot of time left.
I like it anyway <g>.

Actually the N4 Demo is the same demo that was previewed at E3, and
you know how long ago that was, yes?

But that begs the question, what kind of a technology test is it if it
doesn't represent a recent codebase? I'd imagine under the graphics hood
it's a more recent build than E3... I may be wrong though.
