I've read others thoughts on this game, but thought I'd share mine as well on the demo for F1-2000CS. The first thing I noticed was the vast improvement in framerates! WOW, a BIG difference! With F1 2000 I was unable to run FSAA without an incredible framerate hit, but I've turned up every single graphic option to the maximum and ran it at 1024x768 with 4xFSAA on and even at the start of the race, my framerates were excellent! I've read some others opinions on the lackluster graphics of this sim, but with FSAA on it looks great to me! Now granted my system is a bit cutting edge (P-III 933, GeForce 2 GTS 64meg, 128meg 133SDRAM) but on F1 2000 (the original) with the same level of details set, I would notice quite a frame hit at the start of a race, then once you got to the 2nd or 3rd turn things would smooth out, and that was without ANY FSAA on. I can't imagine what F1 2000 must have been like for someone with a system less than 500Mhz! It's a shame that EA won't release a patch for the graphic FPS fix for F1 2000 (but leave out the other features like weather, driving school, etc) I hate to shell out another $40 for this title, especially when it sounds like there will be an F1 2001 by the time the next USGP comes around. Still, the weather effects were decent, and a welcomed improvement, especially the wet reflections, but where are the rain drops?? The AI seem improved quite a bit too, especially at the start of the race, so that's another welcomed improvement! I've read John Bodin's review from Blackhole's site and the driving school sounds interesting enough but I'm still not sure if it's worthy of asking race-sim fans to shell out more $$$, still I guess as John says I could drink a few Pepsi's (yuk, I'm a Coca-Cola guy personally) and save a few bucks which might make it a worthwhile purchase, either that or this one will go on my Christmas list instead ;-) Your thoughts? You want a patch for F1 2000, you say? Well, you're going to have to start making sure you real ALL of MY posts, I guess -- check this out: http://www.deja.com/[ST_rn=if]/getdoc.xp?AN=703070314.1 Just to save you the trouble of having to click-through, I'm going to repost the text for posterity: Okay, not a patch per se, but this may be of interest to those of you who purchased F1 2000: It seems that you can add in all the tracks from F1 2000 into the demo version of F1CS2K, which, in effect, sort of gives you the "full version" of F1CS2K, complete with the improved frame rates offered by F1CS2K. I heard of this through the following post on the High Gear forums; I haven't tried it myself, but it sounds like it is do-able: http://forums.simracingnews.com/ubb/Forum13/HTML/002195.html This method obviously won't give you the improved Spa and Monza tracks that come with the full version of F1CS2K, nor will it give you the full F1CS2K "Driving School" mode, but it does offer you a little more "bang for your buck" if you purchased F1 2000. Consider this the F1 2000 "patch" that everyone thought EA should release instead of F1CS2K, I suppose. -- JB Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
All the tracks in the original version work in the demo. Ask JB about it. Just curious. With the demo plus a retail copy of F12000 (which is now in the bargain bins), can I do full races with full grids? Can I do a championship season?
