OK, we've all seen the nice screenshots of 1GHz Athlons running F1 sims at 1600x1200 with 60fps. But what if you don't own a monster machine and are wondering what the performance of F1CS and GP3 is like? I posted a few side-by-side screenshots to compare the two: http://cranium.unibe.ch/~ferguson/f1comp.html It's not a perfect comparison, as the F1CS demo only has Indy. Anyway, I use a PIII-500 notebook which is hamstrung by an 8Mb Savage video chip, so I would consider this pretty low-end. I have to run F1CS at 640x480 to have a playable framerate (20-30). I can run GP3 at 800x600 and still get a decent framerate (21+). Thankfully, GPL still pegs the framerate counter at 1024x768. cheers Stephen p.s. no comments about the "design" of my web page, please. It's not supposed to look nice.
Nice screenshots - but saying that GP3 runs at 25fps and F1CE2k at 14 is missleading. What makes you think that it runs at 25fps? Is it just because you have it set on 25fps? Well what is the occupancy? Unless it is 80 or less at that grid then you're not getting 25fps. Also, what is the framerate in the F1CE2000 once you start moving? What is it after one lap? It's not 'that' simple to compare a game with dynamic framerate (to keep it real time) and a game that goes-into slow mo - get FRAPs to tell you what the framerate really is in GP3. Not bagging or defending either game, but your comparision on framerate needs a bit more work. For instance look at my GPL - at the back of the grid I get about 26fps - though that is no indication of what my fps is 'cos as soon as the flag drops and cars start moving, it climbs up to 36fps within a second or two, It might drop to about 26fps in the 1st corner but only for a second or two, then it's up to 36fps and never drops. Now would you say that a game that has constant 29fps has a betetr framerate than my GPL - I'd say not. Regards, David Mocnay Stephen Ferguson wrote in message <3a34bf09$[email hidden]>...
