I ran GPL on an oval and felt a great sense of speed, I guess this doesn't
cross over to the Nascar chassis, oh well.

Talking about sense of speed.. what is it that gives a game a sense of
speed? I love Viper, but I sorely miss the sense of speed in Viper.
Only a few games have a real sense of speed imho...
GPL ofcourse, RC2000, NFS:PU, GP3, F1CS2000... ehh.. that's about it
:)
Some games which have no sense of speed at all imho:
Viper, SCGT, Ford Racing..
I guess the field of view has something to do with it, since in most
games the sense of speed if much worse in cockpit view than in bumper
view..

Which is also why being a passenger in my friend's little sports car can
scare the pants off me, but driving the same roads at the same speeds in a
taller car doesn't do anything. I imagine a Caterham would make everything
look like warp speed.

vibration and all the other sensory cues that arent seen in a game. I
remember that my old civic hatchback felt like it was blasting along at 75!
(got it to 99 once but the wheels were about to come off) then i drive my
dads V8 jag and it just feels like cruising speed
Yup.
doing 200 mph feel like doing 50 mph...
I think it's cause they made the FOV so tiny...peripheral stuff..
A wider FOV would increase the sense of speed...but then cars in the
distance..actually everything in the distance would get even
smaller...and it seems tiny allready..
Nascar heat does give a very nice sense of speed.
I'd love N4 with nascar heat's sense of speed and nascar heat's
multiplayer code where, unlike in N4, you can actually bump someone
without all hell braking loose..
Actually...of the thread..
i luuuuuuuuve N4..
except for :
The tiny sounds...
i've gotten used to the engine sound but collisions etc etc really
suck...and the engine sound could get a bit of more balls aswell as
far as i'm concerned.
The multiplay code....
come on papy..at least give us code that will allow bumping under good
connection quality...cause right now even with a 100ms ping and no
loss at all bumping results in havoc...NH proves it can be done..
Do something to increase the sense of speed...
Cheers,
Willem

perhaps a tradeoff to help framerates maybe?
I remember when N2 came out I thought the sense of speed in it was not as
much as N1.
