Ok, I'll be the first admit I'm not the greatest driver but I've been practicing my wheels off and wonder how in the heck do people get their blistering times? I'm on a Logitech FF joystick(with FF turned way down) and avg about 39 flat in the race. When really in a groove I can do a few 38.8s in a row and my all time best is 38.7xx. I see absolutely zero difference in my lap times in Qualifying as in the Race. Does everyone have some super secret Qualifying trick I don't know about? I've got setups coming out of my ass and none come even close to making up a .7 second difference in Qualifying over my race times. It usually amounts to whether I cut good lines or not but I still never usually come close to my personal record. Now using a joystick I don't expect to light the track on fire but I'd at least figure I could do improved hottish Qualify times like most others do.

Well my best lap at Mich is a 186.372, (using a TSW 2) and that is using a setup loose enough to go airborn at the start/finishline. I'm sure most out there are honest, but you can modify the traction settings in the track.ini and gain more speed. Which of course is cheating. We won't really know if the hotlappers are really good or just editing the traction,,, ohh well ! On Tue, 12 Dec 2000 23:19:03 -0600, Destroy <[email hidden]> wrote:

I ran a 37.9 in qualifying and I did not edit the track grip files. During the race I can turn 38.3s with my race engine, it's just a damn good setup... This is exactly what I thought would happen. N4 is so realistic that people are finding out that ( big surprise) the NASCAR drivers are in a different league than they are. Just as people are upset they can't beat Jimmy Clark, they will be upset they can't be Mark Martin. I've done a 38.6 (race engine). Looking at the replay I can see the mistakes that cost me a 38.3. I can see how a better driver could handle a looser car and drop into the 37s. I expect the top ten in NASCAR could do it easily, even with my overly pushy setup. N4 lets you see that, if one of the poor souls who routinely finish 25th got a chance to drive Jeff Gordon's car, they would - put it into the wall, backwards. Real simulations are hell, aren't they :-). bob

I'm also one of the people doing the 37.8's in qualifying. I promise you we haven't touched the track grip or any other cheating ways. It's just a good setup that sticks into the corners. It's also pretty much on the edge through the whole corner and you have to hit the line right on. The difference in a 37.8 and a 38.1 is probably about half a foot off the line. Even with a good setup it's no where near easy to do. -- Solo1 C-Modified (CASC-OR/BARC) http://www.barc-oc.com http://www.casc.on.ca
Alan, how fast can you go with the stock BHMS Michigan setup? It says it can do 186 (not sure what time that is), but Jure's replay is a 189 - YIKES. All I need to know is that someone else can run low 48's with that setup the way it is, and I will continue to work on my line. I've yet to begin tweaking the setup. I think I need to learn how to drive this thing first <g>. Hi, David. The best I could do with the BMHS stock setup is a 186.034(38.673sec). I was mostly in the 185.6 range(38.757sec). The setup is really tight in the middle and off. I looked at the setup and the rf spring is ridiculously stiff. I think he did it to make it easier to enter the corners but you end up sufffering big time in the middle and off. Try lowering the rf spring to 1100 and your times will probably drop a tenth or 2. with a 1100lb rf spring I did a 186.831(38.508) and was doing consitent low to mid 186's for 15 straight laps. I tried going lower(900) with the rf spring and did a 187(38.4sec) but it was getting pretty loose and couldn't get the power down when I wanted and had to have a slight lift at times. If the softer front spring is making it hard for you to enter the corner either release the throttle slower and balance the car with the gas. For example, if the car is tight release the gas, if it's starting to get loose add some gas. Or you can increase the front bumps and move weight forward. With a couple more tweaks to the springs you could do mid 187 race laps and I would guess in qual trim a possible high 188 low 189. When racing on a client/server multiplayer architecture, the host will force any modification to it's own track.ini (or fixed setups, or many other stuff actually) by uploading it to every client. One thing I think we'll find with N4, is a much greater variance with user setups. Well, I haven't touched the track.ini file and I've gotten up to 189 or so. 37.802 seconds. It takes a good setup. And a light fuel load. :) ----------------------------------------- Dan Belcher Team Racing Unlimited http://simcrash.00game.com

It doesn't make much sense to work on a Qual setup with 2 laps of fuel either if the game is going to force a full tank on us. I can't understand that one...
