Hi,
I've set up a new poll so you can cast your vote on what we're
supposed to do about the engine swapper patch with regard to
gplrank.
Please let us know by pointing your browser to
http://gplrank.schuerkamp.de/cgi-reg/poll.cgi
thanks,
uwe

I voted 'NO!!!!!!'. But I'd like to give some reasons too...I use the
gplrank for my own amusement, comparing my laps to papyrus benchmark, the
WR and to a few friends. I know that benchmark drivers didn't cheat, the
WRs are probably quite valid, and my friends don't cheat. So the 'cheat'
doesn't affect my enjoyment of gplrank in the least. Probably most gplrank
users use it in the same fashion?
I don't care if someone 'cheats' and manages to get to position 37 in the
overall ranking by using brabham-dfv, it doesn't affect my times, benchmark
times or my friends' times...
It takes SO LONG TIME to achieve a negative handicap that I'm bound to
believe there's no motivation for MOST people to cheat - GPL is 'above'
cheating :). VROC races might be different for some....ah well, maybe I'm
too optimistic, but it's just me.

Well said. There are quite some bogus laptimes on GPLRank, but I think
that mostly because some people are too lazy to remove their
railriding and warped laps. Just as you do I use GPLRank for my own
improvement (boy did it feel good to get a negative handicap!) and to
compare my laps to those of my friends and to those of the guys who
are in my league.
I can see no reaons why GPLRank should shut down because of the engine
swappah. Why bother cheating with faster engines when it's so easy to
manually edit your laptimes?

Thank you, I thought I was the only one who used principally GPLRank for
that. It's even for myself, I haven't updated my stuff for about 4months
now. I'm checking my friends, how they increase their times, I'm checking
Eldred also. Speaking of that, ouch he's cathching me! Oh the horror ;-D
Darnit just a little bit more then a second on me! Yowza I need to update my
times, I'll go from 38 to around 15. Betcha them guys are gonna think I've
swapped my engine <g>.

But be certain only to vote once! Otherwise you wont get any christmas
presents! :(
Happened to me when I hit refesh after the connection seemed to time
out:
"Martin Granberg, you have already voted in this poll!
The tribe police and Father Christmas have been notified of your
misbehaviour.
Expect the black helicopters and a dire lack of presents soon."
LOL! :)
Cheers,
/Martin

People could cheat GPLRank in so many ways. Don't worry about it.
It's not a problem except to the top ten guys and the overly
compulsive.
It would be a crime to shut it down, since it's so useful to many
people, cheating or no. Many people are focused on comparing to the
benchmark or their friends or their past. Thanks.

So do I! I guess there are lots of us, who use GPLRank just that way.

Your friends increase their times??? Didnt you tell them its
about *lowering* your lap times? That explains the steadily
climbing avg. handicap over the last couple of months ;-)
