Got the N4 Demo. Installed IRF V2.2 and registered. Launch IRF, and I
get the "Connecting to the IRF server" and "Connecting to the N4 Demo
Chat" messages and that's it. It never connects. Per the IRF readme
instructions, I do not have the N4 Demo running when I launch IRF and I
correctly selected the N4 Demo and not Nascar Heat. I have a DSL modem,
and I checked the "Find network addresses in a different way" option in
the N4 Demo multiplayer options.
I am dying to try this thing online. Can anybody out there help me out?
Do you use ZoneAlarm (s/w firewall zonelabs.com)? Set the
security level from High to Medium. If you don't want to do
this as a permanent solution, you can define 216.87.208.137
in ZA as a local address, then set your Local ZA security to
Medium, while leaving your regular internet ZA security
at High. If it stops working later, it might be that
IRF has changed to a different IP address. Review your
ZoneAlarm logs to determine the originating IP when
IRF 2.2 fails, and add the new IP address to your local
network.
This has been working for me. I have no local network
(just one PC at my house), so it's a decent workaround for me.
I don't have a h/w router but I understand if you
specify a couple ports in IRF 2.2 Options, then
open the ports on your firewall, it will work too.
