I am getting a copy of this for Christmas, and was wondering if there
are any pointers anyone had for this game.
PatM
GET A GAMEPAD with ANALOG control and possibly forcefeedback.
Analog is a must - FF is optional.

get a massive computer to go with it. I have a PIII 1GHz. and a GeForce 2MX.
I can play every racing game at great resolutions and all options up. NH,
GP3 and F12KCS. All work fine. I loaded MC2 the other day to play again and
I got solid slowdown. It will play if you lower res to 8x6.
Get on motocrossmadness2.com. There are a ton of adons....

Hmmm - I have a P3-700 with 384mb RAM and a GF 2 GTS card and was able to play
perfectly at 1280x1024 and it was smooth as silk. Fast graphics card will do
wonders for this game.

No, it's not a realistic
simulation by any stretch of the imagination, but I think it's a real
classic and I find myself returning to it again and again while lesser games
come and go from my hard drive.
I have a Celeron 466 and have no trouble running mcm2; the game allows range
of graphical adjustments and you should be able to find a setup that works
with your hardware. Framerates in mcm2 are critical, though, particularly
if you race online (and that's where the the biggest appeal is). Hitting
the "F" key while racing will allow you to see your current fps. I find
that I can race much more consisistently when my fps are up above 45.
Personally, I prefer the precise control of a joystick over a gamepad, but
many people report success with both. A few tips for starting out: stick
to the 250CC bikes -- if you learn to race them well, you'll be faster than
99% of the people running 500 and 600CC engines and the smaller bikes have
much better handling; get to Microsoft's Zone and start racing online --
it's free and it's the best way to see just how slow you are (great
motivation)...; once you're accustomed to how things work, enter the world
of user-created addon tracks...it will add a whole new dimension.
Hope to see race you online soon!

I was playing on a downloaded track, I wonder if that is
the poblem. I will try again on a stock track. I know a GF2 GTS is faster
than an MX, but I wouldn't think it is that much faster..

The GTS is a LOT LOT faster than the MX. Especially on a
graphically intense game like MCM2. The MX is barely the equivalent of the
original GeForce. It uses SDR ram and has other cutbacks to save money.
here is my review with comparison benchmarks
