Is there any way to get the same performance out of my new GeForce2 GTS that I
got from my old Voodoo3? I always got very good (30+) framerates in GPL with the
V3 in Glide mode, but in D3D mode on my GF2 it's mostly hanging around in the
20's. Did a lot of tweaking of settings with mipmapping, full screen
antialiasing, and so on and even did a format/reinstall of Win98 to make sure
the old 3dfx stuff wasn't dragging down performance somehow, but to no avail.
The OpenGL beta thingy doesn't seem to be any better.

Obvious question... Are you using the newer Direct X7 D3D beta
rasterizer that came out a few months ago? That was the one that
finally made my Geforce faster than my Voodoo. Can run it in
2048x1536 faster than I used to run 1024x768... Text is pretty hard
to read at that res, but who needs FSAA at that res! :-)
My apologies if you're already using it and this was a 'duh'...

You can disable it in openGL by default but to do it in D3D you'll need the
coobits reg hack:

Hope that helps,

Those two comments were very interesting, because just today I was
going to order me a new system that includes GeForce2 GTS!
I did not yet... Is it really so that you have to use "beta" rasterizer"
and a _registry hack_(!) to make GPL work well wint GF2GTS???
I would not like to start with my new system by reg hacks!
Perhaps I should still wait a little, and listen to the
converstation in r.a.s.?
Arto
I disabled vsync, but framerates appear to be the same. 36 with no traffic,
28-35 in light traffic, 15-25 in heavy traffic. Ran a few laps around several of
Papy's original tracks just to make sure it wasn't because of unoptimized 3dos
or whatever. 6.31 and 6.47 Detonator drivers, DirectX 8 and 7.0a, Win98
original, 566 Celery2 @ 708, 128MB, 32MB DDR GF2, no antialiasing, vsync on and
then off, 1024x768. Could just be the slow CPU. I'll upgrade after Christmas
sometime. Maybe that'll do it.

It isn't a problem it's just a regestry key that enables the choice to
disable vsync (vsync needs to be dissabled to get solid framerates for just
about all driving games) and enable overclocking in the nvidia menus you can
get other programs that will do the same like nvtweak it's nothing that's
going to harm your computer. The D3D patch is a beta because it was made by
a papy programer in his spare time but it works fine.

I'm with a C300@450 and still happy (on a V3)
JensSchumi
BTW: Do you send me the CPU for shipping costs? Puuuuuleeeeeeeez!!!

P3-850, 128MB Ram, GeForce 2 32MB DDR. I am running the Latest drivers
6.31 (by the Nvidia site) and get constant 36s with 1280*1024 in GPL,
this is with everything on, but wheel/arms (in cockpit). N4 demo with
D3D at 1024*768*32 gets me a constant 40+ (by myself). I notice a
slight slowdown in GPL at the starts, but it quickly regains the 36. I
was able to get the 36 in GPL even without the registry hack, which is
easy to do and caused no grief. After it apears the same except that
N4Demo is faster. I am running DX8. Did I forget anything?
