I have two questions for experienced F1CS2000 players:
1 - There seems to be a large deadzone in the steering input no matter how I
configure things. A few weeks ago there was a post mentioning a definitive
fix for this problem, and now that I have the game I can no longer find the
post. Can someone repeat the fix info for me?
2 - Another issue was making sure all driving aids were turned "off" to get
the full whack of the physics model. In addition to turning off the driving
aids there was one other setting reported that was required to get the full
effect - this is another post I can't find. Would someone kindly repeat
this info for me as well?
Many thanks for any and all helpful posts.

I'm not sure what you mean by the second question--but another fellow has
suggested something. But . . .
as for the first, you need to go into the player .plr file that was created
under the name you typed in when you set up yourself as a driver. This will
be in the EA Sports\F1 Championship Season 2000\Save\"your name" folder.
Look for "Woody.plr" or whatever. Open the file with notepad and scroll
down to "game options" then look for
JoystickDeadZone=(0.20)
and change that 2 to a 0.
Now--and this is important--when you start up the game again, DON'T go into
the options. Every time you do that, the game automatically sets the
deadzone back to 0.20.
So get your graphics, sounds, and gameplay options set the way you want
them, and THEN exit the game, and edit that .plr file.
It's annoying problem, and damned insane, but there it is. It needs a
patch, to be sure.

set where you want them,

the "driving assistance" button. all the other difficulty settings can be
toggled
in the cockpit, but the driving assistance option must be turned off or on
from the menu section.

deadzone utility, too -- I think this is primarily a Logitech problem,
as I have NO dead zone problems at all with my trusty TSW2, and even
though the ISI folks use Logitech wheels themselves, I believe that
they pretty much feel that although the Logitech hardware is good,
their drivers are weak at best. This thread from the High Gear forums
describes the *.plr file tweak procedure in greater detail, with links
to explanatory pictures as well:

Also, you might try setting the "dead zone" slider to zero in the
menus, and the "sensitivity" slider to 100%. Someone here in this
newsgroup reported that this solved their problem.

See my response in a separate post elsewhere in this thread.

Make sure you have "Driving Assistance" set to "OFF" -- it's easy to
turn this on by accident while disabling all the other driving aids
(the default for this is "OFF," while everything else defaults to "ON,"
so if you go through and turn all the aids "OFF," it's easy to turn
this "ON" by mistake, which REALLY affects the driving model).
One of the best places to get F1CS2K info is High Gear's F1 2000 forum:

John, I have my doubts about setting the sensitivity to 100%. With a
LWFF, setting the deadzone in the ini file to (0.00) and using DXTweak
to set the deadzone to 0 should really solve the deadzone problem.
First I had my sensitivity set to 100%, but handling improved when I
set the sensitivity to 30%.

That's wha I did too. After using a 100% sensitivity I had to stop breathing
to prevent the car to go from one side of the track to the other. I'm using
a 25% to 35% sensitivity, depending on other settings. But it's still far
from perfect.

I have a Logitech LWFF and don't have *ANY* deadzone problems.
It set itself up and is working just fine. I never noticed any deadzone
issues. So assuming it is there, maybe I like a big dead zone?

Did you change the deadzone value in the player.PLR (or whatever the

Really, setting the deadzone to 0.00 was a big improvement for me.
