Hi folks, This being the only newsgroup the natives trust, I thought I'd turn to it for a bit of advice. I'm thinking of moving to a better graphics card and have considered the nVidia GeForce 2 MX as an upgrade over my V3-2000. I'd be running it in through this system: Celeron 500 128 mb ram Soundblaster Live! I drive mostly GPL, GP 3 and, now, F1CS 2K. What improvements might I expect over the V3, and what liabilities (besides $$) might I incur in swapping to the nVidia? Do more promising (within reasonable $$) upgrade paths leap out at you? Thanks, and my apologies for the off-topic post. cheers, David K P.S. : Additionally, I hope that any grammatical and spelling mistakes will not be taken as signs of personal barbarity and disrespect for the Glorious English Tradition. If that does happen, I apologize in advance for any role I may play in swerving the thread into yet another series of corrections and queries--one which finally dwindles into an exchange of self-congratulatory chuckling noises amongst a small cadre of philological dilettantes. Indeed, the way these threads seem to end always brings to my mind's eye a certain image: remember the two snarky punters who used to sit on the theater box on The Muppets television show? Cheers again.

Celeron 300a overclocked to 450 128 mb ram Soundblaster Live Value ! but my V3 2000 was overclocked to 3000 speed with additional cooling. I have the Creative MX card and have found a slight performance drop in GPL. On the other hand a reinstalled Nascar heat and the n4 demo are MUCH faster, GP3 by a lesser amount. It is certainly a card you have to tweak and experiment with I feel to get the best from it. Reinstalling Heat seemed to work, so I may try the same with other games. Any other comments ? With MX prices cheap, it would seem to me to be the most cost-effective. I plan to change Motherboard and CPU in the new year too. Ian

I have a similar system .... (Mines a PII 450 though with 256mb RAM) I tried the V3-3000 ... returned it and plugged in the GeForce 2 MX. The GF was around the same price point (maybe a little less). The image was MUCH nicer ... especially in the color and light reflections. (Just my opinion ... I liked it better) On Tue, 19 Dec 2000 07:08:06 -0600, "David Karr" <[email hidden]> wrote:
