Best car combat game for LAN play

SGT Robo asked for a car combat game to play over a home LAN. Interstate '76 with its Nitro Pack was the near-unanimous pick, including from Radical Entertainment's Joe McGinn, while Re-Volt, Carmageddon and Viper Racing were also suggested. Several joked that GPL online qualifies.

I'm looking for a game that allows me to blow stuff up while driving around. I just wanna pick one or two up so me and the lil' missus can bust each other up on our home LAN. Single player experience is pretty important also, as is decent graphics. Any recommendations greatly appreciated. :)
interstate 76 ... there is an atomic edition or some such .... excellent fun ... reasonable driving physics and good networking. Just stay away from interstate 82 ... no where near as good shane SGT Robo <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:91r97p$20c$[email hidden]... > I'm looking for a game that allows me to blow stuff up while drivingaround.

Now, if I've never played I76, would I82 seem as "bad"? i.e. I'm looking for some pretty good graphics here as well as gameplay (Great graphics adds to immersion, IMHO), so would a complete newbie to I## notice that I82 isn't so bad? or is it toally a gameplay thing? thanks for your response, BTW
>"SGT Robo" <[email hidden]> wrote > Now, if I've never played I76, would I82 seem as "bad"? I-76 is greatly under-rated. It's quite cheap these days, especially when included with the add-on pack. It still has a community that races online (compared to I-82 which is already forgotten about). I-82 was a dissapointment, it just wasn't fun. And about every PC today will run the title at great resolutions and graphic quality (I still say it's one of the most beautiful racing game, the landscapes are amazing). > or is it toally a gameplay thing? Yes, it's a gameplay thing. And I-76 is just more immersive, with funky music ;) -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.WeRace.net -- People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realise how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world.

Interstate 76. Andre
yup what ymenard said pretty much sums it up ... I76 goes way up in resolution from memory and that should make it pretty ... just make sure you get the addons packs with the 3d patches. Shane SGT Robo <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:91rde0$kkp$[email hidden]...

Of course, this sounds likea prime candidate for 1024x768 w/4xFSAA :) I-76 it is!!!! any others? what about "Driver" or "Carmageddon"?
It's called Nitro Pack for I76..Geez, i remember seeing an ad for I76 years ago in a friends computer gaming magazine. I thought it was so cool, i bought a computer for that reason only. I guess i should thank Activision for having to fork out big bucks every year to keep the gaming hog current :)

Check out Re-Volt by Acclaim. You're driving remote controlled cars, but for beautiful graphics, smooth gameplay and overall quality, it's my favorite driving game "that allows you to blow stuff up". Single and multiplayer are both great fun and there's quite a community of track and car makers out there. itazura SGT Robo <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:91r97p$20c$[email hidden]... > I'm looking for a game that allows me to blow stuff up while drivingaround.

I'd second that. (i.e Revolt being an excellent combat game) This game lets you do all kinds of stuff to your opponent, (drop oil, ball bearings, electric shocks, etc) and the detail (graphically and in response of the radio controlled cars) is excellent. Put it this way - I've just completed a set of MBA exams and started driving on my PC again after six months away - I have GPL, NFS/PU and GP3 on the PC system but the first game I went for was revolt, because I wanted a bit of fun. WHOA! Now *that* is an endorsement! I was very close to picking up Revolt. Consider it done! Thanks! I picked up Carmageddon2 for $7.90, and now I'm gonna go pick up Revolt. :)
> any others? > > what about "Driver" or "Carmageddon"? Neither is really a car "combat" game...Carmageddon encourages you to run down pedestrians and smash your opponent to bits, but there are no real weapons, per se...just your car. Driver is basically a mission-based version of Midtown Madness...you play an undercover cop infiltrating a crime ring, and drive various missions for them. Again, there are no weapons to speak of, and the intent, in most of the missions, is to finish *without* running into anything. I don't really know of any other PC car combat games, but if you have a PlayStation, I'd recommend Twisted Metal 2 or 4. Skip #3...it was a lousy game. I haven't played 4 myself, but I hear it's good. 2 is great, but the graphics are pretty simple by today's standards. Have fun! DennyK

Just like to second the above advice, Interstate 76 is awesome for LAN multi-player, although there's no racing element. Re-volt is also excellent, although I switched off the weapons.
