It looks awesome! Maybe by next Christmas we can drive it :) "James Pickard" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:6mf06.27278$[email hidden]... > All I can say is, I'm speechless. No, it's not a demo or rolling movie, but

The big question will be what system will be needed to drive something like that at 40 fps :) -- Olav K. Malmin remove .spam when replying

Wow! this is looking promising! in the small pictures you can also see something like a GT40 or a 250LM, I'm not sure.. COOL!!!! it would be great if they put some classic GT cars in it! Must be good if it made you "Speechless" :) James Pickard <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:6mf06.27278$[email hidden]... > All I can say is, I'm speechless. No, it's not a demo or rolling movie, but

Start saving now, people - and for all of you that are sitting smug with your Athlons etc - remember GPL's minimum spec is a P166... I guess y the time WSC comes out, showing all the little touches will take a Cray or somwthing... :-) -- David. When GPL came along and I saw how great it was I gladly upgraded in order to play it. If WSC is equally impressive, I'll do the same.
On the interviews I've seen the west guys dont seem to think that WSC's going to be a HUGE HUGE power hungry game - almost everything will be turn-on-and-offable Doug <Replicant> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Hehe, I've done different upgrades (PIII450@566 -> Cel566@850, V3 -> V5) just to make GPL fly :) I'm sure that when the time comes for a WSC release, both the CPU and graphics card are subject for another upgrade. Take things in small steps and the economical impact isn't that bad... -- Olav K. Malmin remove .spam when replying

Allow me to predict one of the first posts we'll see once the WSC demo hits the streets: =============== I just checked out the WSC demo and I have to warn you all that this thing is TOTAL CRAP! Do not waste your time downloading this -- we have been lied to! I have an Athlon 1400 (overclocked to 1800) with 256 MB of RAM and a new 64 MB NVidia VoodooForce3 Ultra (running a 500MHz core and 475MHz memory, natch), and I should not have to turn down a single detail with ANY sim! EVERYTHING I own runs great on this system, including F1CS2K, GPL, NFSPU, CMR2, Crimson Skies, Gunman Chronicles, Q3, etc., but I can't get WSC to deliver over 30fps unless I disable smoke, particles, animated clouds, skidmarks, pitlane details, etc., and it gets even worse when I try to enable FSAA!!! This is a total crock! N4 also ran like crap on my system, too, and I ended up uninstalling it because I couldn't run a full 43-car field without slowdowns at the start, and not only that, it didn't even have an animated pit crew! Now the West Brothers bring us this total piece of crap -- what a sad day for sim racers everywhere! The West Brothers are evil. Thank God that Crammond's Grand Prix 5 is due out next month -- THAT will be the be- all and end-all of racing sims, and then I can uninstall all the rest of the shoddy piece of crap racing sims that are barely able to satisfy my racing urges while I wait for the next best racing sim ever to come out. =============== Some of you will want to save this thread for future use -- it'll save you a lot of typing when WSC finally does come out. While you're cutting-and-pasting, though, the rest of us will crank back the details a bit and enjoy all the goodness underneath that the West Brothers have been promising. The fact that they're doing the development work on PIII-450s (I think that's what I've heard) does sound promising as well, but I am prepared to scale back the details as needed. -- JB F1CS2K Rank 100.668 http://f1cs2krank.dhs.org/ Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/

While I do agree that there is considerable sentiment to that effect, I question as to whether you are implying that the physics model is a major reason for the relatively poor graphics/framerate compromise in F12K/F1CS2K. Perhaps that was the case with GPL, but it isn't with the F12K series. Framerates of 60 can be reached if one dials back the graphics. If the physics was the primary reason for sub-standard graphics speed, you wouldn't be able to realize a 3x improvement in FPS by fiddling with the graphics settings. Compare to the Superbike sims. I can only conclude that they (ISI) did indeed do a less than top-notch job on their graphics engine. But now that I've played with the settings, I do think you can get pretty contemporary graphics, keep mirrors, and framerate that is even acceptable at the start with an "average" machine like mine (c566@850, V3-2000). >Allow me to predict one of the first posts we'll see once the WSC demo >hits the streets: On target, I'm sure.

Actually, I prefer the scenario you wrote to yet another mind-numbing GPL comparison. There is hardly anything posted in here that doesn't wind up being about GPL within 6 posts. I'm not saying it isn't a good sim, but at this point, but I'm utterly tired of the 60's cars and drivers. I can't wait for the sim that comes along and finally pushes it off the cliff. Tim
40 FPS... yes if you have a P4 (SSE2 enhanced) <g> hmm don't take my words for it.. anyway a P4 will show all what you can do... besides I've done a nice article on this with Chris West few weeks ago... you missed it ?
