I am looking for some advice about picking up a racewheel and pedals. I can get the Logitec wheels and pedals for $39 at CompUsa or the Thrustmaster pro digital 2 for $49. Is there a strong preference in the group for one over the other? Both of these fit my budget right now. I thought about saving up for the ACT labs wheel, but it will not work on my desk, which has a two inch lip. CompUsa had the Thrustmaster set up with the program Midtown madness 2. Two things that I noticed as I tried it out. The accelerator seemed to work as simply an off or on switch. When you pushed on it at all, you went full speed, and when you let up, you came to a stop. Do all wheels act like this, or is it something in the program? I want pedals that will slowly increase my speed as I depress the accelerator. Also, there seemed to be a slight delay from the time I turned the wheel, and when the car onscreen began to respond. It was only a split second, but when trying to go through a small space, like between a car and the guardrail, the delay was just enough to make me crash every time. Again, is this a problem with that wheel, all wheels, or dependant upon the software. (It could be that if I had the game and wheel at home, I would have been able to adjust settings to improve response). I will be using an 866mhz Dell, and plugging into the USB port. The main programs I am looking to use the wheel with are the papyrus Nascar series (2,3, and the upcoming 4), and Nascar Hear. (Midtown Madness did look fun, though, if the control problem could be fixed). Anyway, I would appreciate any feedback as to the Logitec or Thrustmaster wheels, and info on whether the problems I noticed are general for all wheels, just for certain programs, or whatever. Thanks
I got a Pro 2 a few days ago, I like it. The gas/on/off and and delay must be software or PC related this one doesn't do it. It has the split axis option also and preset's for different games. As far as mounting, I put 2 holes in the unit just above the clamp tightning brackets and installed 2 bolts with wing nuts... kind of overkill but it won't move while driving. There's no dead spot like the older model and the pedals are alot better than the Logictech's, from what I saw in the shop anyway. Hell for 49 bills its a steal. Of course I had a ch500 wheel and T2 pedals before this unit. It works like a dream with GPL and N3 and the N4 demo. Of course I have to get use to the splits axis, I still suck anyway!! Take care J. If you're at all interested in FF, here's another option for not much more than the non FF version. http://store.yahoo.com/justdeals/logindev.html Bob G BeStiff wrote:
