I have been playing CMR1 since it was relased in 98. It was, and still is, a great game. Now when CMR2 has been released I'm confused about the mixed opinions people have about this game. I think it's great! Amazing graphics. The carhandling is great (just as in CMR1). Very good network-play. It is not a real rally-sim, but it's great fun. I have also read that people has had technical problems with the game, but it runs great on my PC. Not one single problem. In my opinion it's the best racing-game made so far. And I have played many. Why do so many disagree? JS

JS. I can't speak for everyone but I'm sure most of us remember all the claims that were being made for it back in late 99 and early 2000, it was really being put across as a major leap forward in car handling physics i.e. independent suspension etc. It's not much improved over CMR1 IMO although CMR1 was good, problem is we have had Rallymasters for over 6months now, which IMO has a better physics model (apart from it's tarmac handling). I was pretty negative on the game but having played it for a few hours, it is a great game, especially the Arcade mode racing with the thumping soundtracks. It just aint no sim and many of us were expecting better (remind you of any other recent MAJOR REVSION of a sim that didn't quite turn out to be so). That may be the case (however, the Escort handles very closely to what I remember my Escort used to handle on dirt) but realistic titles don't neccessarily sell more copies than close enough to the real thing for most casual drivers to tell. Given the extra cost, it's not surprising it wasn't modelled to the extreme. But, it feels pretty darn good to me, picked it up yesterday and I'm having a ball with it. Bear in mind that I only ever played the PS version of CMR1, which is probably why I feel that I got my moneys worth more than others may have. I played the demo and was very unimpressed, don't even know why I bought it yesterday, I was just in the mood to buy something. Glad I did though. One critisism I can't understand though is the graphics. They look absolutely STUNNING on my Geforce2 GTS. Especially the cockpit view. P3-800, 512MB RAM. Cheers, Rod.

Getting a game to run well on all the different PC-hardware combinations, graphics adapters, wheel, joystick etc, is not easy. Most games I can think of needed several patches before things got right. I agree with most of your feelings for the game. Its not prefect though, the worst is the lack of save/load of replays ! Also the menu structure is the worst I have seen for a long time. Silly you have to go through all these windows. Mouse support and one big window with all the essential options, and a few sub windows to set special stuff would be a lot better. Also the game should remember all setting when you leave, so that you dont have to select things like player name every single time the game is started. If there is such a thing as a 'worst game user interface' price of the year, CMR2 is my candidate ;-) Of all time worst it gets beat only by TOCA2, mainly because it had an even more irritating 'pling' for every menu ;-) Joergen
Are you able to run full FSAA on with your system? And.... Your GeForce 2 GTS, is it the 32 meg or 64 meg version? Jay J "Rod Prince" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:MPG.14ad1a0c31aa1c69989787@news-server...

Interesting... The review that you can find a link to on Black Hole's website talks like the interface is one of the best they've ever come across! They do a head to head comparison between CMR2 and RC2000 Jay J "J Skantse" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:91tr27$ios$[email hidden]... > > "JS" <[email hidden]> wrote in message > news:wXs06.481$[email hidden]... > > I have been playing CMR1 since it was relased in 98. Not even bothering with FSAA on my machine due to the average monitor I have. All options are cranked up on my 32mb board at 1024x768x32 and no slowdown whatsoever. Good sense of speed. Polygons are very smooth. Cheers, Rod.

I think the menu structure is great! It's clean, fast, intuitive and good looking. Personally I like gui that is splitted into parts that fits logically good together, and I hate it when there is so much on the screen that you have no idea what to do. Another great UI is fifa2000, if any of you played that game(:-), that's clean and easy to master. -- -Ole-Martin-Mrk- Today is yesterday tomorrow

I agree, I'm also having a lot of fun with CMR2. The car graphics are the best i've seen (with cubic env. mapping turned on), the stage graphics are pretty good, with lots of variety from country to country. The sound is good, the interface is fine, the game is structured well, and it runs pretty fast as well. The co-driver messages are extremely informative, and totally reliable. Overall, no complaints. Maybe my opinions are shaped by the fact that I haven't really played Rally Masters. Since the demo wouldn't work with my wheel I had to skip buying the full RM. As you say CMR2 isn't exactly a sim but there's nothing desperately wrong with the driving model. And I prefer the wide stages since it allows you to slide the cars. Anyone who bought CMR2 expecting a really serious sim was being a little naive, given Codemasters track record, and their claims of 'unprecedented realism' in TOCA 2. CMR2 maybe isn't the best game ever, but it is a blast. "JS" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:wXs06.481$[email hidden]... > I have been playing CMR1 since it was relased in 98. Hmnnn.. I guess its a compromise between easy for the beginner and quick and powerfull for the person using the game a lot. Sure you cant miss any options when the game forces you through all the settings windows before you can start playing ;-) I would prefer something where I would have to click just one button, the 'race' button, after starting the game, to run again with all the settings I used last time I played ! People were hoping that with all the time that has passed, the handling and physics could be improved--even if the tracks and other bits remained mostly arcade. Marc.

How does CMR2 compare with Mobil 1 Rally Championship? I got this game for Christmas and am having a great time blasting down English country roads, but I haven't seen any posts about it. -Dan Bateman
Look for posts titled RC2000 which is what Mobil One Rally is called in Europe... Make sure you get the latest patch, as it TOTALLY changes the game!!! Jay J "Dan Bateman" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Ah, thanks, I thought a game as nice as RC2000 would be here somewhere. So what does the patch change? Should I keep playing it now, because I really don't have any complaints except in arcade if you don't finish in first place after 6 races (segments) then you have to do all 6 over again (right?) And it takes me 30 min or more to finish all 6. -Dan Bateman
