On the inside flap of the retail box there's a pic of a honda punting a
lotus (well deserved), but also some light blue cars with orange stripes:
what are these?
I know in other games box art is usually done on beta copies, like on the
Trespasser box are several scenes and dinosaurs that never appear in the
final game.

It looks similar to the MS5 that was raced in 1967 by Matra, yet it's shaped
like the Honda. I think it might simply be a Cooper, considering the two
stripes on each side of the cockpit. There was several variation in colors
of the *Coventry* in the release version of GPL. I'm confused. Bruce?
Anybody?
Please don't tell us it's the fantasy Gulf-sponsored car raced by Steve
McQueen <g>

Just had a browse through a few books and I can only find pics of '67
Coopers dressed in similar colours to the Rindt GPL version. The lines up
the side of the nose seem to indicate a Cooper though. Maybe its a
licensing thing as the Cooper wasn't officially even in the game?

There are light-blue Coopers in the full game if you race with a full field.
There's also orange ones. Pitty the player can only use the dark navy one.

Among the mip files used to paint the different
Coventries is one named cov24bit.mip which matches the blue and orange cars on
the box.

Another observation: There are pictures of Ferraris on the box art, but the
Ferrari wasn't mentioned in the manuals. I can only assume that the lead time
for the art is less than for the manuals, meaning they could be added after
'permission' was given?

Cool, I'll look for them in that 11lap ring race I have to run next
weekend :)
