I have put an old computer back together and was trying to test the
pedals/wheel combo with MS Midtown Madness 1. I keep getting constant
game stops. Some that last for as long as 1 or more seconds.
Needless to say this makes it VERY had to drive. The game doesn't
keep going it freezes and then starts up again. Seems to happen most
often when I'm cornering. PC is a Dell P2/333, Diamond Viper V770,
Aureal Vortex 2. Wheel is MS FF and pedals are from my Act Labs FRS.
Please help. I'm giving this system to my Brother/Sister in Law and
thier kids. I need to get this fixed asap so they can play games on
it.
Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays to all.

It could be locking up when it tries to read data from the CD. I don't
have MM, but is there a "full install" option? If so, try reinstalling
with the "full install"...this should copy all of the data to the hard
drive and keep it from having to read from the CD. Also, if it's playing
music from the CD, it may be locking up when switching tracks. Try
playing without the CD in the drive. If it won't let you, see if you can
find a No-CD hack for it. I had a similar problem with Destruction Derby
2, until I got a No-CD hack so I could play it without it trying to read
from the CD-ROM every few minutes and locking up while the drive spins
up.
Good luck!

I've turned off music. I've
dloaded and installed both patches from MS. I've had this problem
before and solved it but can't remember what I did to solve it. I've
looked into network queries and HD access. I'm at a loss as to what
could be causing this. Thanks for the ideas though.
Happy Holidays

Once I upgraded the
system to 64Mb the game stopped freezing.
Hope this helps

I think there is some kind of setting in the game for "fast load"? As
I recall, some people had luck shutting that off.
I also recall people had problems with MM when they had less RAM
installed than others, though there were exceptions.
Perhaps you can try using a permanent swap file to see if that helps
any?
Does it do this with every detail and graphic setting level?
