I opted to go with a Logitech FF wheel--decent quality after all &
price was right. Anyway, the only way I can get the FF to work with
GPL is through online racing on VROC. I cant find any option in the
standalone vs. the AI racers that allows me to turn on the FF option.
Any suggestions??

After updating GPL to v1.1+ you can get the FF support by
modifying the core.ini. Please read the 'readme11.txt' for
detailed instructions on how to set it up.

Look for something that looks like the following in your core.ini file in
the GPL directory:
[ Joy ]
allow_force_feedback = 1
force_feedback_latency = 0.005000
force_feedback_damping = 8.000000
max_steering_torque = 350.000000

something. It's frequently skewed to reflect the bent steering linkage.
It's a real pain using a wheel without FF as I have to hold the wheel
off-centre to keep the car going straight.

I guess the odd part is that the on-screen wheel is straight and
everything, but my physical wheel is skewed over.. ah well, Im just
getting used to it..

Maybe Im not being clear.. but shouldnt my onscreen wheel be as messed
up as my real wheel? i.e. if my real one is sideways, so should the
onscreen one if the front end is damaged?
