Please help settle a dispute between a friend and me. Didn't the rules
change so that Nascar WC will run in the rain on road courses now? Can you
point me to a URL to confirm this one way or the other, please?
Thanks!
NASCAR will never run a points race in the rain for safety reasons. They've
only done it once, during one of the Japan events a couple of years back. I
doubt NASCAR would run in the rain for safety reasons.

NASCAR tested rain tires at The Glen last year and took rain tires to the
race weekend, although the threat of rain never materialized. With the tight
schedule they run, NASCAR cannot afford to have a rainout and the decision
was made to run the event either way. Go to www.nascar.com and do a search
for rain tires, or check out this link for a Larry McReynolds article on the
new rain package for Watkins Glen and Sonoma:

prepared to if the necessary. Check out this NASCAR Online news story

about half way down where he describes the "rain package" they were planning
to use at Watkins Glen this past season if they had needed it. Sure sounds
like the rules permit it at least on the road courses.

The CTS race would have been run in the rain at Portland last year if it had
rained. CTS is part of Nascar

Indeed they did, rain tires, windshield wiper, and window-mounted brake light, and the plan was to run whether it rained or not. Not only did the "threat of rain" materialize, but rain interrupted a number of the practice sessions over the weekend. Thankfully, Sunday's weather was good.
IIRC, only about 12 guys went out on the wets during one of the practice sessions, and I was surprised at how fast they ran, not nearly as much off the pace as I would have thought. Seems to me that Rusty was fastest, with Martin in the mix as well.
I remember reading that Nascar has said they will not run a race WHILE its
raining. They will, however, run the race after the rain has stopped. This
eliminates the need to dry the track which can take several hours if there is
still cloud cover. Also, they would only do this on the road courses, for
obvious reasons.
