Kinda like how Quake1 came out, then hardware-accelerate GLQuake was
released? Tomb Raider is another example, was just wondering if there was a
decent I-76 patch out somewhere.
Yep, I just went through all this. :) Go here:
http://www.activision.com/support/156.asp
It's not really clear from the page which patches bring you up to the latest
bits, but what I did was install the 1.06 patch for game play related fixes
and then the 1.08 patch for D3D support on my voodoo 3 card. Maybe I could
have gotten away with just the 1.08 patch, but better safe then sorry.
Good Luck!

This is a file that UPGRADES YOUR EXISTING VERSION OF INTERSTATE '76 with
all of the I'76 GOLD EDITION enhancements.
cutandpasteend.................
Seems to be a free upgrade to the Gold edition. Cool! Good looking out, Sgt!

Sgt!
Is Interstate 76 Nitro the same as I-76 Gold? I got the Nitro pack as part
of a compilation with some other games, but the on disc documents are pretty
lacking. It does have both d3d and 3dfx graphics options. The activision
site doesn't mention the nitro version at all, but has the upgrade files for
the gold edition. Should I download those gold files?
thanks if anyone can answer this

Cool! Good looking out,I think Gold contains the original and the Nitro add-on or so I've been
told. Also, Nitro seems to be a stand alone product.

No, I don't think so. Nitro came out after the original and Gold contains
the original and nitro.

If it's the site the was referenced further up the thread, I think I read
that the files were only for owners of the original. I haven't tried 'em out
myself yet, though.

I think the Gold version is i76 with the 3D patch. Arsenal contains
i76 patched already to 3D and the Nitro add-on pack.

The version that contains both is called Arsenal.

Ok then - so if I just have the Nitro pack, I need to get the original I-76
and patch it up to gold, or just buy the Arsenal version?
TIA

There is, but it's so old it's very hard to get working on current
drivers (even on an old card like my Voodoo2).

humm. I'm going from what's posted at the Activision support site. I havne't
downloaded and tried ( it's in 5 separate flies and I'm lazy), but will
shortly and let you know. However, it looks as if these files upgrade you to
GOLD and that, Gold, as the page describes it, seems to include Arsenal and
Nitro enhancements. It has to be more than just hardware acceleration
because there are additional files *without* the h/ware acceleration
feature.
heh, clearly this is from way back in the day when we weren't all framerate
queens and hardware acceleration was actually an option. ;)
anyhow--as follows:
http://www.activision.com/downloads/79.asp
This is a file that UPGRADES YOUR EXISTING VERSION OF INTERSTATE '76 with
all of the I'76 GOLD EDITION enhancements. These are the exact same I'76
Gold Edition enhancements that are included in the Interstate '76 Arsenal
and the Interstate '76 Nitro Pack. YOU MUST HAVE THE ORIGINAL INTERSTATE '76
GAME TO USE THIS DOWNLOADABLE FILE. This file is quite large as it contains
several new files that include 16-bit art, new horizon maps, difficulty
levels, hack prevention and 3D hardware support for all of the original I
'76 missions. Please refer to the "Gold Edition" page on this site for a
complete listing of the enhancements. There are two versions of the file --
a software version and a 3D hardware version. Both are identical except that
the hardware version includes the 3D acceleration enhancement and will take
longer to download. A 3D accelerator card is required to use the hardware
enhancement, although you can still download the hardware version and run
the game in software mode. The 3D hardware version is 85 MB; software
version is 70 MB.

versions out myself and may be misinformed.

Thanks... guess I'll be on the lookout for the Arsenal package then.
Wouldn't that be the "Nitro Pack" ?

I've always been confused by this products 'versions'.
I got the original, and I got the "Nitro Pack" version bundled with
something along the way.
I have no idea what the difference is.
