When F1CS2000 was released I was very excited about it, and I still think this is the best F1 sim in the market today. But 2 things started to annoy me so much that I haven't played it for weeks now. 1) Braking problems. I have CH Pro pedals, and in all racing games, especially GP3 and GPL I can modulate the brakes very precisely. In F1CS2000, I can't. It's either full lock or not enough brake in F1CS2000. I can get it right sometimes, but every corner again it's a pure gamble for me how far I have to press the brakes. I can't 'feel' how close the tires are to locking up, which I do feel in GPL. 2) I got gold medals for every test, except the seemingly most simple test of them all: Curva Grande. Tried it hundreds and hundreds of times, but everytime I'm a couple of tenths too slow. I can only come to the conclusion that somehow I don't get full power (it can't be my bad driving :) I read some other posts from people with exactly the same problem, Gold medal for every test except Curva. These problems made me stop playing F1CS2000. I was hoping someone would came up with a solution of how to fine-tune braking in this game, and how to activate full throttle so that the curva can be done (I did get Bronze for Curva, but Gold seems impossible). Still hoping that someone comes up with a solution.. Andre
At first I had a brake problem, but just like GPL, I got used to it. I have found a nice sweet spot and can normally reproduce the spot when I need to. Sure I may get a little lockup but it doesn't seem to hurt the car. I wouldn't let a driving school test make you quit a game. The driving school is a very nice feature that other games don't have...be happy that it is there and live with the little quircks...it really isn't that bad...oh BTW, it isn't a problem with full throttle...I can't get gold there either and I think it is because the driving school times were done in a different car (not 2 seater) or with a different setup...so don't worry about it. I'm think the solution is to change the braking_ratio setting in the Default.vhs file. It's under [CONTROLS]. Change it from 9xxx to around 6200 and see if it feels better. People did this same change when F12000 was released. David G Fisher "Andre Warringa" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

And also its worth remembering the lock up point shifts as you brake with these cars. At the begining of a large braking zone you can pretty much stomp on the brakes because of the amount of aerodynamic grip you are getting, of course as you slow this grip becomes less and it is easier to lock the brakes, hence its quite hard to judge just how hard you can brake. I guess you have to trail brake even in a straight line. -- Cheers, Robin Lord - Trance DJ & Sim Racer. http://www.oppositelock.co.uk Nrburgring and Grand Prix Legends David G Fisher <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:hRI96.21567$[email hidden]... | I'm think the solution is to change the braking_ratio setting in the | Default.vhs file. Well, I don't think F1 2000 could ever have the feel of the road that GPL does. What I did was turn down the braking ratio in the veh file. Also try turning down the 4 wheel inertia values. I think these affect the tire slide on the road, not the inertia of the wheel rotation. Like the other inertia values turning them down gives a faster more "in touch" less sloppy feel. In the garage I set the brake bias around 46 to 48. Still, the braking isn't so much by feel but rote memorization. A lot of times I just go full brake the right amount of time, then pump the pedal, and feather the throttle to unlock the rears. By the time I hear the squeal or visually detect a lock, it is often too late. Tom Andre Warringa wrote;

Well Andre, I don't even have your good pedals...I have the infamous LWFF which is a nice wheel, but the pedals are like a game pad...on or off. I gave up long ago with SCGT and now F1cs2k and enabled the ABS brakes. I'd rather race than spend each corner worrying about the tiny minute movement that is required to lock em up. I'll give David G Fisher's editing trick a try tho...maybe it will help. dave henrie F1CS2k Rank..dead last with a Jordan..Moving up briskly with a Mclaren. It's not the fact that I can't complete the driving school that's putting me off, but I still have a big feeling that somehow I don't get full throttle in F1CS2000. What you say can be true, but some people did finish the test, and really, on my system it's simply impossible. I mean, the test couldn't be easier, shift up once and follow a slight bend. Yet I'm a couple of 10ths too slow :( Biggest bummer is the locking. Ofcourse I also had to get used to braking in GPL, but in F1CS2000 braking isn't right on my system. It's either full lock or way to less brake. John Bodin said he'd mail me some braking adjustment tips, if I get it working right I'll post it here. F1CS2000 is a fantastic sim, and I'd love to get it working right.. Andre

Did you try adjusting your RZ- axis? You can set individual axis deadzones/sensitivity levels in F1CS...
I agree completely. David G Fisher " <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:947m8c$r3k$[email hidden]... > And also its worth remembering the lock up point shifts as you brake with > these cars. I'll try that when I get home from work, thanks. Andre

You're absolutely right Robin, I'm fully aware of that (I play GPL :) but that isn't the problem here. In GPL you can quite easily feel/hear when the tires are about to lock up, and when the tires are locking up, I press the braking pedal just a little bit less, stopping the tires from locking. I don't have this fine-control in F1CS2000. No matter how carefully I try to modulate the pedal, it's either full lock or not enough braking. I'll try DGF's tip though and post about it here. Andre

I also have the LWFF Dave, and bought the CH pedals to replace the LWFF pedals. I can really recommend buying these pedals, very precise control in GPL, braking and trailbraking in GPL is a thrill now. Andre
