I'm not sure if this is the correct term but it's how I refer to it....as if
the eyeballs were located at about the same height as the peak of the roll
bar, the mirrors and instruments don't show anything and the "situational
awareness" is about a 300% improvement on the normal cockpit view.
Is there any way to get the pit board displayed whilst driving in this view?

High cockpit 'view 12' in GPL and a language squabble
Bruce Kennewell asked whether the high driving view set via drivingView = 12 in player.ini could show the pitboard. Mika Takala and others said it could not, but pointed to George Smiley's view editor and high cockpit files. The thread devolved into another bickering exchange between Bruce Kennewell and ymenard, with Tom Pabst joining in.

Thanks, Mika.
I am actually using, in the Player.ini file, 'drivingView = 12' but in this
view the lap board is not displayed. I was simply wondering if it was
possible to display it when using this driverView setting,

nope, that is not possible.
I think someone (G.Smiley?) posted instructions how to change the driving
view so that all mirrors and pitboards work, but I don't remember where it
is.

I'm not sure that's possible using the F12 view but you might try George
Smiley's driving view editor to get a similar position, you will have to
rely on the cockpit for information (gears, rpm's etc.) instead of the
screen display that the F12 view implements.

Hi all
Sorry.. I am slow...
I am familiar with the F10 wiew, but F12 ?
Please exsplain for me ..
Stefan Zscharnack
Stefan, you just need to make a slight edit to your player.ini file.
The following is an example......
[ Personal Information ]
carNumber = 4 ; preferred car number
driverNationality = 1 ; nationality of the driver
driverRating = 1 ; driver rating
drivingView = 12 ; driving view
firstName = Jackie ; first name of the player
helmetColor = 15 ; helmet color
lastName = Stewart ; last name of the player
lastTrackSelection = monza ; last track visited
team = 1 ; team
On the line 'drivingView', change the number to '12' (without the
parenthesis).
when you are in the game, if you hit the [F10] key, the view will
immediately revert to the default setting. To get it back you'll have to
edit the line in the player.ini file again.
Oh...the file will be found in your \Players directory......there'll be one
in each the folder for each driver you have created for yourself.

He was clearly wondering why you wrote "F12". Everybody knows you can edit
the views, but there is no relation between the key "F12" and such thing.
If you press it on the keyboard, it won't do a thing in GPL. That confused
people, Bruce.

How do you guess that english is my seckond language ? :D
(It could be my tird or fourth :) )
I was confused about the "F12", or the "F" .
I know I can change the settings in Player.ini.
But I di not remeber all the different nubers to put in.

That way it in no way is associated with, and thereby considered a lesser
view, of the F10 key.

Hey man relax Bruce, I was just stating that you wrote F12 in your subject
header which might have confused some people. It wasn't harsh at all,
actually it wasn't really compare to when you actually do such thing!
Remember your failure with the "grill" situation.

Bruce...
Francois, no longer sim races.......didn't he send you an email too?
Frank told me a few weeks ago.... he now spends all of his time on
newsgroups......looking for arguments and heated discussions. Its some kind
of sexual thing or something.......I don't know? I'm just sorry we lost a
good sim racer.....well, sort of a good sim racer!
I actually didn't believe Frank when he wrote me. But then, last weekend my
granddaughter was on the Internet, sniffing about in one of her Girl Scout
newsgroups and found a girl talking about a new Girl Scout cookie being
produced for next year's annual cookie drive. The ingredients for the new
cookie were listed.....and my grand daughter said some person was arguing
over the benefits of using "bleached flour" instead of "whole grain" flour
and that she thought she recognized the name from something she saw on my
computer a few nights earlier? I asked her what the person's name
was.....she said:
"Frank <the-ymenard-cookie-monster> Expert"
She thought that was an awfully unusual name.....especially for someone
acting so rude on her Girl Scout newsgroup!
So, alas.....Frank was not fibbing when he wrote me of his decision! I
understand he now has four desktop PC's and three "notebooks" on his
desk....that way he can keep up his rude and pointless remarks on 6
newsgroups at the same time! My guess is, he has the money to buy those new
computers now that he doesn't have to buy 4 or 5 new race controllers every
week.....looking for the reason why everyone else is faster than he is in
GPL. He always figured it was "an equipment issue".....you know?
I'll know Frank has really flipped out.....if he ever tells me he's given up
"collecting Star Wars dolls"......man, that would be the ultimate sacrifice,
Frank! Don't Do It Man!
We probably could all help Frank, if we'd just give him a good argument
every day or two. Maybe he'd come back to sim racing eventually?
Gosh, Frank...buddy........what can we do to help you through this
"thing"........huh??????

Hey, I appreciate this form of communications over the other parts of the
Internet. It's a choice no? Btw did you wrote this just because I wrote a
couple of words on you in Jacob's NG?
> I'm just sorry we lost a
> good sim racer.....well, sort of a good sim racer!
LOL ;) I'm good, but I have my style. I have learned from the
Villeneuve. Give my any car, any setup and I'll push it to the limit (and
often past it). I'm spectacular to watch, but I know it's not the fastest
way. It's my fastest way. I would be a good Rally driver ;)
> I actually didn't believe Frank when he wrote me.
It's somehow true, I don't have much time to devote to racing sims.
Basically I have a couple of hours free per night, so I need to decide what
I do with them. I most of the times prefer to hop on newsgroups and
communicate with the world. Try to put out my opinions for the community.
I'll often check out VROC or ICQ, but my racing time has diminuish by much
since the end of the NROS when I was 12hours per day there as a NROS Guide.
I remember somebody who did that in the NG a couple of months. He basically
retired of r.a.s. because he didn't had anymore time to devote to racing
sims. I can understand him. I don't see why you think it's a bad thing
either to devote time on the Usenet. It's a great tool of communication.
I also suffer from major procrastination. UGH!
LOL funny but untrue ;-) Anyway ymenard is unique and my propriety.

I'm so glad you learned your lesson. Don't do to others what you don't like
to be done to yourself.
And yes, it was a _failure_. Anybody who has knowledge of motorsport terms
know that we use the word GRILL. Heck I've just searched my dictionary of
automotive term and it's there as the alternate spelling of grille.
Everybody who wants to point out the front of car in Stockcar tells it's a
*grill*. Nice try Bruce.
FYI, in French it's "grille" and only that. It wasn't even a French thing,
LMAO!
