Best modern F1 sim: GP3 or F1CS2K?

A player asked whether Grand Prix 3 or F1 Championship Season 2000 was the better modern F1 sim. Opinions split, with some favouring F1CS2K's physics and others preferring GP3's feel, graphics and force feedback, while ymenard suggested waiting for UbiSoft's upcoming F1 Racing Championship demo. John Bodin promoted an F1CS All Chassis Patch, and the poster decided to try the demos.

I was wondering what your guys' opinion on the best modern F1 sim would be? I pretty much narrowed it down to either GP3 or F1CS2K. I've been playing the GP3 demo for quite a while now and like it a lot and now I'm downloading the F1SC2K demo so that I can compare but, I was wondering what other people think about these two sims. thanks in adavance, Jah_Warrior86
CS because they are making CART bodies for it... I would suggest you perhaps wait a week and see the newest F1 game by Ubisoft as the demo will be released around February 7-10th. I personally think that every modern F1 sim at the moment isn't very good. Ubisoft's newest F1 entity isn't really the end-of-all sims but is probably slightly higher in quality then F1CS (I find it's game engine bland), and especially GP3 (which I wouldn't suggest at all). -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.ymenard.com/ -- People think it must be fun to be a genius, but they don't realise how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world.

I've played the dreamcast UBI F1 Racing Championship and while it looks very nice the physics aren't up to much and the sound is buggy (again what is with them and sound) that's on a console the pc one will probably be buggy as hell. well, for track accuracy, GP3 has an almost real Silverstone. pez ~Jah_Warrior86~ <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:IEMc6.60723$[email hidden]... > I was wondering what your guys' opinion on the best modern F1 sim wouldbe? > I pretty much narrowed it down to either GP3 or F1CS2K. I'd say GP3. F1CS2K is better in some ways, but the poor physics and AI ruin it for me. Basically, it's the only thing I find better in GP3. At least it's not bland, the car has some identity. > > GP3 (which I wouldn't suggest at all). > > Whatever :-) ;-) -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.ymenard.com/ -- People think it must be fun to be a genius, but they don't realise how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world.
<Alex asked: which modern F1 sim?> Alex, as you can see in this thread and was visible in many other threads, people don't reach concensus about whether F12000 or GP3 is the best. My conclusion: they are on the same level. I own both games and I think both have their strong and their weak points, but in the end they are quite similar in quality. I think you should download both the demos and then decide for yourself which game YOU like most ('cause that's most important). grtngs, hgrm
I have never been able to decide which sim I think is best (F1CS2K or GP3). They both do certain things very, very well. Thanks everyone for the input, I guess I'll just get the demos and try them out and see which I like best seeing there isn't a decisive answer. thanks again Jah_Warrior86
"Poor physics" in F1CS2K? WHAT?! I know it comes down to personal taste, but, frankly, I find GP3 to be pretty much deviod of any kind of physics feel, whereas F1CS2K is the next best thing to GP3, IMO. In GP3 I just can't get over the feeling that the track is moving, just scrolling by while the car itself is sitting still. As I said, it's all about personal preferece, but when it comes to physics, I personally prefer F1CS2K over GP3 any day. -- JB F1CS2K Rank 78.610 http://f1cs2krank.dhs.org/ In article <c5Zc6.3405$[email hidden]>, "Aubrey" <[email hidden]> wrote: > I'd say GP3. >As I said, it's all about personal preferece, but when it comes to >physics, I personally prefer F1CS2K over GP3 any day. It is hard to say... As someone wrote, they somehow are quite even: I think graphics, tracks, and of course FF are better in GP3 - there nearly is no FF in F1CS2K, only on kerbs... But on the other hand, F1CS2K seems to model the car behaviour quite nice after the very good patch... But both are really quite mild compared to GPL, and also to the N4 demo... ;-) Arto

I am not a fan of FF, Arto, but for those of you who are, I take your word for the fact that F1CS2K is lacking in that area. Force Feedback aside, though, I find that F1CS2K "feels" a lot like GPL when driven WITHOUT a FF wheel (IMO). > But both are really quite mild compared to GPL, and also to the N4 > demo... ;-) Yes, but then again, I would expect a modern F1 car (with aero aids) to be somewhat "mild" when compared to a 1967 Grand Prix car with no wings and hard bias-ply tires -- or a heavy, hulking, relatively low-tech modern NASCAR stock car . . . ;-) -- JB F1CS2K Rank 76.829 http://f1cs2krank.dhs.org/ Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/

Well, yeah, F1WGP does rule -- LOTS of fun, and oh-SO-close to being REALLY great. Four patches and the brakes are getting to where they should be, thankfully. In > GP3 I just can't get over the feeling that the track is moving, just > scrolling by while the car itself is sitting still. That sounds like a graphics problem more than a physics problem. F1CS2K has a better graphics engine, I'll admit that. But my problem with its physics is that the cars just feel way too heavy. You can make it a little better by editing the inertia in the .veh files, but you can't use realistic values because glitches begin to appear. I also think the tires have way too much grip. The .veh files say the tire coefficient of friction is something like 2.5, which would mean you could take a slow corner at 2.5 g's, probably a bit faster than that, because there is some downforce even in a slow corner. Whereas, in fact, F1 cars generally take the slowest corners at about 1.5 g's. I made a .veh file that sets tire friction to 1.5 and increased downforce to compensate, and the car felt just fantastic, actually a lot easier to drive! Unfortunately, the AI cars swerve all over the place with those settings, so it's pretty much useless. Sorry to be so long winded. -Aubrey

Have you tried the F1CS2K All Chassis Patch, available from the Blackhole Motorsports site? This seems to work nicely, with no ill side-effects. Sorry to be so long winded. Okay, that answers my question -- you HAVEN'T used the All Chassis Patch, because with that, you can enjoy enhanced player physics while still allowing the AI to use the game's default physics, which means that the AI performance is unaffected. Not a plug per se (it's not like I get paid for this $#!+ or anything, you know), but you said you were seeing AI problems with altered physics, and we've found a way around that with the All Chassis Patch. Beyond that, what other sort of "glitches" did you see beyond erratic AI performance when tweaking the physics? And, again, I reiterate: Have you tried the All Chassis Patch yet? -- JB F1CS2K Rank 72.077 http://f1cs2krank.dhs.org/ Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/

Hey JB, I'm interested, how does this patch work in order to not affect the AI car perfromance, esp. when switching the cars? -Gregor
