I have just gotten an interest in some GPL oval racing. Anyone have some
good oval setups? Everything I make either bottoms, overheats the tires, or
doesn't turn...send them to [email hidden] or post a URL here if you
have some.

A good tip for oval racing in gpl is to play with the camber at long
tracks. Put the left side camber near max positive and right side near
max negative. But the steering will pull to the left, ala N4. ;)
With the camber at the extremes you lower the rolling resistance with
less tire on the ground so you have higher top speeds, plus the car
pulls itself through the corners. Just don't use too much camber on
smaller tracks or you'll lose too much grip.

Stiffen the lot to the max, (esp in bristol)
give it a bit of toe in too, run a few test laps then adjust the camber
angles individually, works for me

You should use TPs, not cambers, to reduce the rolling resistance. Once you
get the camber optimized (the normal way--use GRE to equalize the temps
across each tread), raise the TP so that the center temp is 1-2 deg. higher
on the R side and 2-3 deg. higher on the L side. You want plenty of camber
thrust on the ovals (higher G loadings), so if you're going to err, the L
side of each reading should be higher by a deg. or so than the R side
(assuming you're racing c'clockwise, i.e., aren't testing the banking @
Monza).
The diff should also be completely open (85/85/1) to minimize rolling
resistance and kill the push.
You'll also want to run increased ride heights and springs stiff enough to
keep you off the bumpers (.5 in.)
The shocks should be stiffer on the L than the R.
Use the bars to move the roll couple aft so you don't o'heat the RF (you'll
probably wind up with a stiffer bar at the back).
Take two Goody's and call me in the morning.

Alan is dead correct for Oval racing in GPL.
The high speed ovals in GPL, do not require the car to generate maximum
lateral traction, as the centrifugal downforce from the banking will
generate enough lateral traction on the high speed ovals in a GPL car.
Running too high a tire pressures on the Ovals in a GPL car is fine,
for novice length races, providing you don't push too hard, but for
anything over a novice length race, your tires won't make the distance
if your being pressured from behind.
In F3/FG & F2/FD, if you don't set up a high speed oval car using high
levels of off-set camber, you will not even be close to competitive
with any one that knows how to set up an oval car in GPL.
F1 in GPL isn't quite as critical as the other classes, but it still
makes a huge difference to the rolling drag factor by off-setting
cambers.

Okay, Ron, you're faster than I am....
