F1RC demo and split axis - any success?

F1 Racing Championship demo and split pedal axes

Darko Juvan could not get split pedal axes working with his TSW wheel in UbiSoft's F1 Racing Championship demo. Some dismissed the game as not a serious sim, while others like Rod Prince and Tony Rickard found the physics promising. Posters criticised the sound and force feedback, and Thomas Bruckschlegel explained how he got separate CH pedals working.

I have TSW wheel and I'm desperately trying to make split axis work with F1RC demo. Anybody have any success in making split axis working in demo? Thanks in advance. Darko PS Ubisoft supposed to release "real F1 simulator" on March 15. Such a basic thing as split axis support should be already in the game. Strange?
Oh brother...not another one (a brain dead game trying to pass itself off a sim.). Lack of immediate and simple split axis support is the first give away that this is NOT a sophisticated title. Every time. Marc "Darko Juvan" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:TOof6.15110$[email hidden]...

Based on someone else's comments, I understand the cockpit view is not the default view. There's another giveaway. :) "Marc Collins" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Eopf6.55251$[email hidden]... > Oh brother...not another one (a brain dead game trying to pass itself offa

I just tried it, and I dislike it. The force feedback is implemented so strangely, it almost seems like the car is steering itself. Maybe F1CS2K is a little weak in the FF department, but at least you're driving the car.

Other than that, it's an excellent sim. It's not running full physics, but from judging on pro physics, it's certainly one to keep an eye on. (and those already condeming it, I recommend you *try* it before you lay the boot in) Cheers, Rod.
Of course you don't need to try it before you can condemn it. :-) David G Fisher "Rod Prince" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:MPG.14e8efad9fc7e9b79897b2@news-server... > In article <TOof6.15110$[email hidden]>, > [email hidden] says... > > I have TSW wheel and I'm desperately trying to make split axis work with > > F1RC demo. Well, the sound is SO bad, they can't possibly release it with the sound from the demo.. Andre > >Jan

Maybe I'm asking too much here, but I'll go a bit further than the original question. ---- Does the F1RC demo support multiple controllers (ie - LWFF with TSW pedals) with split axis? Configuring both F1RS and MGPRS2 this way was an iffy proposition at best. Darko Juvan wrote:

Hmm.. good point :) But to be honest.. the best sounds are allways the user-made sounds, so hopefully F1RC will be easy to edit. I just spent another hour on the demo and I start to like it more and more.. Especially Eau Rouge is -very- well done imho, it's a real challenge! Man, 6 long weeks before the full version is released.. Andre > >Jan
I have no problems with the FF. I use W2k, Guillemot Ferrari FF-Wheel + CH Product's PRO Pedals (old one, on the SB-Live Port) - FF is strong enough - you have to play around with the steering settings.... Sound is okay, Cockpit view is also nice (who need's fancy bitmap steering wheels), engine is a little bit high, gfx is great, driving model + physic are the best I've seen (since GPL) - way better than F1CS & GP3, let's wait for the final, to test the expert driving model

True, but I think the problem with the sounds in the demo is not just how they sound but also how they work. For instance most of the time the tire screeching is amiss, especially when you need it (starting to slide, getting wheelspin etc). >I just spent another hour on the demo and I start to like it more and >more.. Is it just me or is the garage not working either? The setup surely needs shorter gears and/or less wing. Jan

go to your game input settings (Windows) and add the "two 2-axes, 2-button, joystick on one gameport" "Andre Warringa" <[email hidden]> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:[email hidden]... > On Mon, 5 Feb 2001 19:45:10 +0100, "Thomas Bruckschlegel" > <[email hidden]> wrote: > > >I have no problems with the FF. For me F1RC gives more warning through the physics that adhesion is being lost than either GP3 or F1CS. Also I thought the wheelspin feedback was well done (it will only be truly apparent one the traction control is fully off). I guess it is all down to preferences.

For sure the garage option is not there. I am pulling 200mph just before lifting for Eau Rouge and 202 at the end of the following straight. I am sure it could go faster but not overly constrained by a high downforce/low geared setup. Tony

It's just the engine and collision sounds (somewhat) that bother me. It could be there is a problem with the way the demo is working with Jan's sound card. David G Fisher

I'm sorry, but I'm not quite sure what sound has to do with whether a game is a good sim or not. Who really cares about sound? Give me an engine sound remotely close to an F1 to let me know when someone's near, and that's about all I want or need in the sound department. Alanb

Now graphics. Make the tracks as realistic as possible, give me fair graphics and a good physical model, and I'm happy. To me sound and graphics are of secondary importance when it comes to judging the worth of a racing sim. Alanb

Sound is very important, it's one of the 3 feedback you get when driving racing simulations (with visual and FF). It is extremely important, as much as the other to have quality sound. It is one of the most neglicted aspect of racing simulations. Looping an engine sound won't cut it in 2001. Only few succeed, and it's a shame. -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.ymenard.com/ -- People think it must be fun to be a genius, but they don't realise how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world.
