I have begun having minor problems with my MSFF Wheel. While recently doing some hot laps at Silverstone in GPL I started experiencing odd happenings with my wheel. While driving the driver would suddenly look left, or right, or the car would shift up or down without my intervention. I also tried other games such as Mobil 1 Rally, and Nascar 3 same type of issues. I also tried my MS Sidewinder FFB joystick and experienced similar odd happenings in Microsoft's Combat Simulator. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Sidewinder software the products came with (they are probably 2 years old although, the joystick gets next to no use). After reinstallation of software its better but still occasionally having odd stuff go on. Any ideas? I didn't have this problem until recently but I haven't changed anything PC Wise (Gateway PII 450 with 128MB Ram and 10 GB HD, 16MB Banshee card. Thanks Cudd
"Mike Cuddington" <[email hidden]> wrote If it were just the one controller, it would make sense that maybe the controller was just wearing out (or something). But since it happens with both, I would look at things the two controllers have in common and the gameport is the first thing that comes to my mind. What kind of gameport is it? > I also tried my MS Sidewinder FFB joystick and experienced similar odd > happenings in Microsoft's Combat Simulator. >
I'm no computer professional either. WinME is running just fine on my other PC and works with my MSFF wheel and joystick. -- Ian P <email invalid due to spam> daxe <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > On Tue, 6 Feb 2001 13:00:28 -0500, "Larry" <[email hidden]> wrote: > > >Are you running Windows ME? > > > >If so, I had the same problem and never could fix it. **** Post for FREE via your newsreader at post.usenet.com **** Ian, Do you have the USB version or the Gameport version? 3.02 or 4.0 software? There were many complaints about the Gameport version, with the 3.02 software (the only one available for the Gameport version) having problems with intermittent shifting, jerking, etc... on thier own. This is the main reason I had to give up gaming on WinME. I also didn't like the BSODS, GPF's and other errors I got that ME is now famous for. In other words, it wasn't and isn't must me who had these problems. People complain about them to this day, and not necessarily here on RAS. The problems with Windows ME are very real. Some are lucky... -Larry "Ian P" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:LSig6.48$I5.2177@stones... > I'm no computer professional either. WinME is running just fine on myother

Let me give you a hypothetical, Larry. Suppose 10 people take identical cars out in the snow with the intent of driving from point A to point B. Some of the people will get there quickly. Some of the people will get there slowly. Some of the people won't get there at all. But you are going to blame it on the car? ~daxe

I know this wasn't addressed to me, but I feel the need to respond. I'm sure you understand that, Larry.... There may have been complaints, but I am using the gameport version of the MSFF with the 3.02 software in WinME and it works great. Always has. That doesn't mean that other people haven't had problems, but what it DOES mean is that the gameport MSFF with version 3.02 software on WinME DOES WORK. If it DOESN'T WORK in your case, it ISN'T the operating system or the software that's broken. >This is the main reason I had to give up gaming on WinME. That's unfortunate, because WinME is far more stable than and previous version of Win9x, in my experience. Since it DOES WORK in my case and in many others, the error, by nature, does not lie with the operating system, but the configuration of the hardware running it! If the whole OS was broken it would cause BSODs and GPF on everyones systems, no matter what they had for hardware, but IT DOESN'T. >I also didn't like the BSODS, GPF's and other errors I got that ME is now >famous for. I think this must be a case of preaching to the choir. You probably hang around in places that validate your opinion. I have no general impression that WinME is a troublesome OS. I don't hear it from people and don't have the general impression that people don't like it and have lots of trouble with it. >In other words, it wasn't and isn't must me who had these problems. People >complain about them to this day, and not necessarily here on RAS. People complain about lots of things and they always will. That doesn't make what they are complaining about defective. How many copies of WinME have been sold and are in use? What percentage of those users complain and have problems? A loud minority doesn't define an overall condition. >The problems with Windows ME are very real. Some are lucky... And some of us just know how to SOLVE problems instead of just complaining about them. ~daxe

I'm using the Gameport wheel and USB (non FF) joystick using version 3.02.0391 of the sidewinder software. I disabled the system restore which was causing hard disk accessing during games and a few other things listed here on ras a few months back. As for BSODs and GPFs, well I only get those on this PC running 98SE (they are quite rare on this as well) In fact the main reason I've stuck with ME on the other PC is that I use it for my work and found it to be the most stable operating system that the programs I need to use will run on. (Not tried Windows 2000 yet though). -- Ian P <email invalid due to spam> Larry <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3a81b558$[email hidden]... > **** Post for FREE via your newsreader at post.usenet.com **** > > Ian, > > Do you have the USB version or the Gameport version? > > 3.02 or 4.0 software? > > There were many complaints about the Gameport version, with the 3.02 > software (the only one available for the Gameport version) having problems > with intermittent shifting, jerking, etc... on thier own. > > This is the main reason I had to give up gaming on WinME. > > I also didn't like the BSODS, GPF's and other errors I got that ME is now > famous for. > > In other words, it wasn't and isn't must me who had these problems.
