Attention Ubisoft... this is how a F1 sim should sound.
BRM 1953.... just crank up that volume and listen in awe ;)

Recording of the BRM V16 engine sound
Mikkel Gram-Hansen shared an MP3 of a BRM V16 at full song, contrasting it with the poor sound in UbiSoft's F1 demo. Others identified the source as the CD with Nick Mason's book 'Into the Red' and noted that Patrick Daly's GPL BRM sound came from the same engine. Posters discussed the V16's specifications and offered to post more recordings.

Expecting a '53 BRM and a '99 Ferrari to have the same sound?
Uff!
OTOH, the sound in the F1RC demo is a disgrace...
or, back to optimistic thinking, just a place holder!
At least in one of the videos I saw, the sound had a
lot more meat. (get it? meat!)

I am playing it through Winamp right now, set to endless repeat. It sounds

That sounds great! Now, what are the chances of turning that into a wav

I think it's from Nick Mason's and Mark Hales's book "Into The
Red"!
The book comes with a CD recording of some of Nick Mason's
classic cars, including Porsche 962, Ferrari 250 GTO, and an
the incredible 16 cylinder BRM.
The book is shit, but buy it for the CD!!

Truly beautiful music. The BRM has always been my favorite engine
sound in gpl. But is it correct that this recording is from a 1953
motor ?

It's the BRM V-16, not the H-16 dual boxer. A supercharged 1.5liter
beast that was capable of over 600hp at about 12000rpm(!!) if it
weren't for the carbs that held it back to "only" ~530. All that in a
narrow-wheeled early-fifties car... Now if you thought GPL was hard to
drive... :-)

Then the last time I heard racing engines in anger was the GTP race in
New Orleans.....damn thats a lovely sound. I believe that if they
could actually convey that sound on the TV racing would be more
popular than any other sport.

AE86? What is that? Corolla? I would love to hear that sound, you've
any pointer?

Could someone send me that sound if its a wav file. I really need a good
sound for my Corolla that is being made for SCGT.

Do you find yourself gravitating to an 18:1 steering ratio all the time in
GPL? I did; turns out that's what my MR2's got. Go figure.

4AGE??
I have a Sprinter AE86 with a 1600 Twincam with 40 Webber Carbs on it. VERY
nice sound :)

Crikey! Indeed, I use 18:1 on most of my setups!
Remco
James,
Do you have a wav for it. I am looking for something close to that for a
car I am working on in SCGT.
