Ok, let's start a comparison of our N4 - Frame Rate Results. That way people can decide what part (or all) of their puter they might need to upgrade to get the decent performance while running N4. Here's the test. Please do it this way to compare apples to apples: 1. Set the resolution Video to 800x600 on OpenGl or D3D 2. MAX everything out in N4 (42 cars in the field, 100% world detail, High on everything, full view in mirror with all the cars seen in front and back, max out the sounds in audio and crank up and click on everything possible. 3. Go into a Single player race at Daytona with 42 cars, realistic mode and damage on, cloudy weather, full pace lap and yellows on, etc. (It is important to try this in single player as multiplayer will give better results) 4. Use the Cockpit view for racing. 5. While starting off in the pace press your F key to see the Frame Rates Per second (FPS) in the top right hand corner. Notice your FPS while in the pace and while racing then report your result and what system you used like the following report I give below: Deiter's Racing Computer Results with N4 and above settings: Average FPS while in pace = 7 Average FPS while in race = 11 CPU = P3 -550 (not overclocked) VIDEO = NVIDIA GEFORCE 1 DDR 32MB (not overclocked, using Opengl latest nvidia drivers) RAM = 384 MB 100mhz MOBO = ABIT BH6 with 1x AGP. (Latest bios loaded) SOUND = LIVE PLATINUM (all 3d EAX 24 sounds turned on in N4) WHEEL = MS FFB Sidewinder gameport version (forces turned up to 100%) OS = WIN98SE (all the latest patches loaded including DX8) thanks -- Bruce Moody AKA Deiter #33 RacersDomain.Com Drivers Club Director http://www.racersdomain.com

Just out of curiosity, why are you not running with FSAA? (um, at the 800x600 level, I can understand why not at 1280x960 <g>). Gordon Berg (obliga...ah, screw it)
> Average FPS while in pace = 7 > Average FPS while in race = 11 If you're getting this with a geforce card, it must be laughable on a voodoo3. I'll be waiting to see results on the next gen video cards, a geforce2 doesn't seem like its worth the money to me. rms [email hidden]
Hey, thanks rrevved for the results. Yeah I know most people don't use 42 cars but it's just for testing purposes to see the difference and yes N4 likes CPU speed more than a video card. I'll be interested to see a Gforce 2 Ultra on a slower Processor to see how it compares to your results. The added AI cars do cause a CPU performance hit, but they also cause a Video hit albeit, it looks like more of a CPU hit at this point. Thanks also for the comparison between 800x600x16 and 1280x960x16. Sometimes the 1280 gets higher FPS than the 800 setting in some games but doesn't look like it does in N4. Interesting, what are your system specs for your computer and such? -- Bruce Moody AKA Deiter #33 RacersDomain.Com Drivers Club Director http://www.racersdomain.com chainbreaker <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Everything else being equal, with a GF256 I get faster framerates in OpenGL > than with D3D. > > Jerry Morelock > >

Not yet, no. I'm trying to put together a wheel round up for a car magazine, so this might be one of the titles I test them on (Force RS and shifter arrive next week, *really* looking forward to that <g>). Mostly lurking in the newsgroup...I really feel out of place. ;-) Gordon Berg (posting from home -- but still an obligatory sig text)
Sorry to get in late, but I have noticed a big varience in frame rate from track to track. Some of the tracks I average in the high 20's but others routinely dog me down near the teens. dave henrie "Bruce Moody" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:G6Gg6.1378$[email hidden]...
