I've now posted the MP3's recorded from Nick Mason's (of Pink Floyd) book
"Into the Red" on alt.binaries.simulators.autos.
Most tracks include starting up, a drive past and in car, and there are two
full laps of the mighty V16 BRM lapping Donnigton.
The cars are as follows
Alfa Romeo 8C 2300
Ferrari Daytona
Ferrari 512BBLM
Ferrari 250 GTO
Ferrari 512S
Ferrari 312T3
ERA B Type
Tyrell 011
Jaguar D Type
Panhard B1
Bugatti T35B
Maserati 250F
Lotus 18
Porsche 935 K3
Porsche 962
BRM V16 Mk2
The BRM is a must have. Certainly the loudest and best sounding car ever
made. It sends a shiver up the spine as it flies past the pits.

Classic racing car MP3s from 'Into the Red'
A poster calling himself Some Call Me Tim uploaded MP3 recordings of classic racing cars from Nick Mason's book 'Into the Red' to the binaries newsgroup. Many had trouble getting complete files because of spam floods and server limits, and people tried reposts, Napster and FTP alternatives. It emerged that the US edition of the book shipped without the CD.

Ok I'll try to repost the BRMv16 again sometime on Sunday.
Notify me if any of the others don't work.

The Alfa, Porshe 935 and 962 also didn't propagate properly. Incomplete on
both supernews and remarq.
You're getting swamped out by those Mitchel on Demand idiots (what does that
program do anyway?), would you mind trying alt.binaries.sounds.samples or
somesuch?

I second what Jan has said, neither of those where complete on
Giganews either, which is a paid newserver.
Also on giganews is 1 part of 2 for a LOLA T297 which was not
on your list. Can you repost this also.

Auto body repair estimate software, I believe.

Ye gods... 13 CD's worth of repair guides for cars. How obscure can you get?
Being thoroughly entrenched in virtual racing I would never entertain the
thought of working on a real car(exactly what kept me out of real racing).
Not that I'm scared of getting my hands dirty, I just don't trust myself to
do a good job. I am trained to be an electronics engineer... I design and
repair/troubleshoot electronic circuits. Others are trained in the
automotive field. I trust them to design and maintain cars. I'm the kind of
guy who puts fuel in and turns the key. All other stuff I expect my
dealer/garage to take care of.

Hello,
For some complicated reasons (I am using AOL but not their newsservers) I
can't access the binaries newsgroup
Couls someone please upload these files to a FTP site so that people like me
can get them ?
I can store files like that on free access for everybody (once I have gotten
them) I have access to about 300 Mo of web space that I do not use for the
moment, if you want to use this for "newsgroup" storage let me know, it is
no problem at all...
Thx

Greetings!
Sorry, the CD for the At The LImit title was available in the UK only.
The only version released to the US market was the less expensive
version without the CD. We tried to purchase CD's seperately to
address this concern, but they were not available seperately. My only
advice would to be ordering the book from a UK source.

How about those that have this making them available on Napster?
(while there is still time).
Otherwise my server has limited postings on the other categories but
goes back over a week on alt.binaries.sounds.mp3 so if anyone would
be kind enough to post there.
But I really the way to do this is for those with cable or DSL to make
them available on Napster. I know I will, once I get them from
somewhere.
yes yes yes yes
for those concerned about napsetr you can get the "new napster" on the
following
www.winmx.com
www.imesh.com
www.audiogalaxy.com
same as napster, but not only sound and with resume function....
could someone please post them there ?

It seems that posting on newsgroups is a no go for a lot of us, so uploading
to an ftp site or web space going to be the best bet.
I'll put them up of my web site when I get the time, but since I'm going to
be busy taking MCSE exams in the next few weeks I doubt I'll have to time to
update my web site until sometime in mid to late March.
If you can't wait till then if someone gives me details their FTP site I
might be able to get them uploaded.
I only have a standard 56k modem so file sharing doesn't work for me , but
when someone with a decent permanent connection gets all the files then
we'll be laughing.
BTW has anyone actually managed to get all the files off
alt.binaries.simulators.autos ?

I only saw the last parts of the posts, ie - 2nd of 2, 3rd of 3 etc.
I am guessing all the Mitchell on Demand crap is pushing everything off
my loverly (ha!) @home newsservers faster than you could get it up there.

So far only a couple have showed up:

"Into the Red -race car sounds-Maserati 250F 1957.mp3"
And there are only a couple of people providing those two.
If we can get all these files online than we can spread them qiuckly and

B*gg*r, they don't register, I had this prob before, it seems that
some mp3's don't get included in Napsters Library build. I'm using
what was the latest V 2 beta 9.6 but only the schu one is treated
as valid by Napster.
Sorry to dissapoint, I'm back on Wed evening and if anyone wants
them to put on an FTP site, drop me a mail (remove GPLs from

Btw I entered "maxx" as a search and there are loads of Maxx's in the
music world! LOL!
I also searched on "ferrari" and was surprised at how many songs there
are about Ferrari's! Alos a lot of short sound effects about them, too.

Thanks, but doesn't work. I tried d/l both the mp3s and the zip files
and each time what is actually d/l is a 5k file that while ending in
mp3 or .zip is actually an html page saying in effect "can't find that
page".
