Hi there,
I won't be getting N4 for several reasons, the main one being that my
computer would explode when I inserted the CD and it figured out there
was no where near enough HP to run the thing... oh and also i'm broke.
Anyway, is there anyone out there (pref. Aussies) who are still racing
N3 Online? or even Offline? I'd like to know that i'm not the only one
willing to stay in the stone age rather than sell a kidney to get a
system that can run the newest, bestest game ever, every 2 months.
DG
You're not the only one. I still like it.
Never tried online racing. Not sure if my slow modem could handle it.

I can't afford to upgrade my system at this present
time. I know at least ten people that are in the same situation. I'll just
keep racing N3 until I can upgrade, it's better then know racing at all.
You got 2, come on, sell it, you know you want to race N4!

How slow is slow? You need only about 24k for Papyrus sims.

nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark
It's a 56k. Do you play through the internet and your ISP, or do you
dial direct into the game host?
My ISP disconnects me quite often for no reason.

I use an external 56k V.90 modem (set at 24k) dialed into my local
ISP. You'll find local ISPs are generally better quality connections
than big national ISPs.
Are the disconnects when you are active (transfering data) or
during a lull? If it's when you are inactive make sure your DUN
and/or MSIE are set to *not* "disconnect automatically after xx
minutes". Also, your ISP may disconnect you if inactive for a length
of time.
If it's when you are transfering data, it may be the ISP or maybe
the phone company. I've had a unique problem the last few months
where my modem would go "on hook" by itself (the "off hook" light will
go out, but it still thinks its got a 56k connection, even though no
data can be transferred). The only way to fix it is to shut down the
modem and redial. Luckily, that doesn't seem to happen during driving
sessions. It's happened with two different ISPs, so I think the
problem is elsewhere.

I still play N2, too. I prefer the older Atlanta and Sears Point to
the new ones.
The new Atlanta is too much like Charlotte and Texas.
And there's no Pocono on N3. I live near there and enjoy running it
on N2.

I've been using N2 (well, N99) Pocono with N3 since I got it without
any problems. AFAIR, you just copy the Pocono directory over into your
N3 tracks directory. Could be wrong. In any case, I run Pocono in N3
:-)
DG
go to the tptcc section of the uspits or any n3 sim site that links to
track
editing and you'll find Sears Point in both 1999 and 1997 configurations
that just BLOW the original versions away. And there are patches to enable
the OLD Atlanta as well...although I'm not sure where now..
have fun.
