I just like this demo really much, but i have lock-ups proplem, when i drive 2-3 laps my game lock-up, like pressing pause key, all halted, only reset helps. My Specs. 950 Mhz P2 256MB Ram Geforce 2 ULTRA(with drivers 5.22,6.47 and 6.50) Any help -Jani-
Are you doing any overclocking on your graphics card? This game seems to have a really well optimized graphics engine so it probably puts more strain on the card than other titles, meaning that it will overheat much quicker. -Gregor Kankkis wrote:

So what's your impressions of the F1RC demo? I'd like to hear how you think it compares to F12000/F12000CS. David G Fisher "Gregor Veble" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

David G Fisher wrote: > > So what's your impressions of the F1RC demo? I'd like to hear how you think > it compares to F12000/F12000CS. > > David G Fisher Hi, thanks for your interest. I've decided to just copy&paste my impressions as posted at the High Gear forums: ----- Everybody's doing it, so let me do a small evaluation of the demo as well. I played F1 2000, GP3, and also the F1 2000 CS demo version. My computer specs are PIII 450 (running at slightly above 500), 128MB RAM, Geforce 2 MX. The best feature of the demo is definitely the graphics. It's both technically an advanced graphics engine (just try parking halfway in a shadow!), which the GP3 one isn't, and artistically acomplished, which is the downfall of the murky EA sims, but GP3 IMHO still excells in giving the most realistic impression if by just a little. What is also remarkable is how fast the graphics can run given the complexity. Overall, I find it the best graphics of any modern F1 sim - in dry that is. GP3 during weather changes is, however, based on the screenshots of Ubisofts latest, still the sim to beat. On to the physics. They seem to be pleasingly good, but with a strange annoyance. Actually, there doesn't seem to be all that much difference on the realism scale between the three competitors, although they all feel slightly different from each other as each has its own quirks. While EA's efforts out of the box give the cars inertias Papyrus' latest would have been proud off, the values in the F1 RC demo seem to be very close to the GP3 ones, which gives the cars the same twitchyness one would expect from a modern F1 car. Also, the tire cornering stiffness in the demo (the ammount of slip angle produced when cornering at the limit) seems to be in between GP3 and F1 2000, and actually feels very natural as it gives close to the ammount of slippage one can observe in real F1 footage (GP3 may be a tad to 'stiff' in this respect). But (there is always a but), the differential physics seem to be quite a bit off. While real world differentials split the torque evenly (open diff) or even put more torque on the slower spinning tire (limited slip), the differential as modelled in the F1 RC demo seems to put more torque on the faster spinning tire. This means that the slower tire has almost all the maximum lateral force available as almost none is applied in the longitudinal direction, even at full throttle in 1st gear. (* additional comment below) All of this manifests itself in the car going perfectly straight on very liberal applications of throttle, even when exiting the corners. A powered spin will only occur if the car is depending on the inside tyre to hold some lateral force as well. What disappointed me most, however, was the FF implementation. It is not based on the forces (and torques) produced on the front tires, but uses the centering spring effect, much like F1 2000/CS. Mind you, there is no centering spring enabled in the Windows controller setup (I never use that option), as the centering effect is provided by the game and not device drivers. While it does produce effects on kerbs and when hitting walls, these are just that, mere effects, while the useful part of FF on tarmac is missing. Where it's the most apparent is when trying to apply opposite lock. While the forces involved should actually help you turn the wheel towards opposite lock, in F1 RC demo you need to fight an artificial centering force opposing the direction of the input, making it all feel very awkward. After playing GP3, FF is actually the part which detracts me most from the enjoyment of the F1 RC demo, as the immersion that could be otherwise provided by it (and is in GP3) simply isn't there. So, if you don't have a FF wheel and the differential problems do not bother you as much (it will probably be possible to lock the differential in the full version more thus effectively almost eliminate the problem), this might probably be the best choice for an F1 sim on the market, if the AI happens to turn out well, of course. If you crave for more realistic FF effects, GP3 is probably where you'll spend more time with, as it provides better immersion, even though the graphics is a bit rougher overall, but, then again, wet weather effects in GP3 do compensate for much of it. If the few presented features in the demo are a good indication of the final product, I'll personally stick with GP3 as the choice of my F1 sim. But I will be tempted, no doubt about that. ---- * I need to comment, though, that the demo does have 40% driving aids enabled, whatever that means, so the strange behaviour upon acceleration could be a matter of traction help. The people with preview versions didn't comment on the behaviour to be any different with the aids off, though. -Gregor

Only have a second, but I wanted to let you know that the differential setting can definitely be adjusted, and the two threads below at the HG forum discuss the ff and how it is editable. You'll see in the second thread that Redline has a file to download which he claims will improve the ff quite a bit. http://forums.simracingnews.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=18&t= 000407 http://forums.simracingnews.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=18&t= 000419 Haven't tried it myself because my ff wheel was damaged recently. Try league races.. even then we have the occasional start pile-up, but I had numerous fantastic races with 20 drivers. Even on VROC I have good races with 20 drivers occasionally. And when you do spin, it's not really fun when there are only 7 drivers on the track, big chance you'll be spending the rest of the race alone on the track. With 20 cars on the track you at least have some nice duels with other cars, even if it isn't for winning the race. Andre

the number of drivers being low is a problem. Not because 20 or 30 or 42 is better than 5, but finding a racer of equal strength becomes easier with bigger fields. You'll always have guys that rocket off into the distance, and some that can't stay on the asphalt. But the more guys/gals per start the greater the chance of racing closely with even one or two near equals. With 5 the chances are slim indeed you'll even see the other cars after the first lap. dave henrie "David G Fisher" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:sRGj6.2581$C%[email hidden]...

No comparison whatsoever. F1RC blows it away even GP3. When you see what you can do with the setups in the final version you will be amazed and how complex this sim really is. The tracks and graphics are top notch as no other sim can rival it on this. David G Fisher wrote:

Sorry for seeing your post this late. About the differential settings, I do hope they make a difference. I doubt it though, as there seems to be a flaw in the physics engine, unless it's some weird traction control algorithm in the demo that makes it happen, and you can't cure a flaw with tweaks. Seeing that other UbiSoft F1 sims exhibit the same behaviour, I don't think the problem will disappear with aids off. A similar thing goes for the force feedback. If the sim engine doesn't have force-moment based force feedback, no ammount of tweaking the special FF effects of the sim will make the road feel realistic. I don't care if my wheel jitters when I climb a curb, or transmits engine vibrations. All I want is useful indo about the grip on my front wheels. And that is clearly not the focus of the F1 RC engine. -Gregor David G Fisher wrote:

So if go into a lefthander going down hill at 200 kmh with increasing speed, I MUST notice some understeer. The Ferrari appears to be a super car, because there is none what so ever ( a bit if I check it with 'the paper-check'). The aids should not alter this basic element of the car model. And if it's not there, than I suspect it won't be there in the final version. (Which calls for a patch, somewhere after the summer for sure) Second question is if Ubisoft thought of implementing this by means of FF. I found out that the force implemented on the wheel is stable when in fact you expect a change because of upcoming understeer. I just read a review from someone who claims to have the final version. He said the game is the best there is, but the AI is shit. Like with F12000 in the beginning. It really gives you mixed feelings about this game. The picture I get or I expect is one of a beauty, but without the 'nice legs'. scrcs scrcs

I've been in races with 14-19 drivers before. Half the field disappears into the distance. The others - who are at my speed or slower, may crash once or twice, then disco in disgust.
