I'm curious what I'm missing here. Last night I raced at online at Talladega. In qualifying, I ran 187.046 while the pole sitter ran over 191. During the race, I was lapped by the 2nd place car who passed me as if I was standing still. It was all I could do to stay within five car lengths of him in his draft. Passing him was completely impossible. Shortly thereafter, we came up on a guy with his nose bashed in and he and I were DEAD EVEN down the back straight with no draft! I refuse to believe that driving line makes a 4 mph difference at flat-out tracks like Talladega and Daytona. My car isn't loose, it isn't tight, I'm not fighting the wheel, I'm down as close to the apron in the turns as I can get, my tires are 60 psi. Yet I can't even hit 191 mph in a straight line, let alone qualify with an AVERAGE lap of 191 mph. Are these guys bypassing the 70 degree spoiler rule by changing the track type in the track.ini file, or am I really just that far off in the setup? It'll take an awful lot of convincing for me to believe somebody's not monkying around where they shouldn't be. -Chris- a.k.a. "Dirt"
**** Post for FREE via your newsreader at post.usenet.com **** I'm having the same problems, and frankly I was a Level-15 Dega driver on TEN with some 80 wins. Ditto for Daytona. I'm confused too... -Larry "Chris Cavin" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:5Zxk6.14$[email hidden]... > I'm curious what I'm missing here. Last night I raced at online at > Talladega. The only person that can monkey around would be the server, and if they do that, you are effected also. Try using the FAST setup that came with your game and see how that works for you. Yes, 187 sounds very slow down the backstretch.. you should probably be at 186+ just coming off the turns. Yet I can't even hit 191 mph in a straight line, Is your wheel calibrated properly? How are the pots, especially for the throttle? In the draft I've hit high 190's at these tracks. Also check your gearing. -- Fester
> thereafter, we came up on a guy with his nose bashed in and he and I were > DEAD EVEN down the back straight with no draft! The grille tape has some effect on the staightline speeds too. In the default Fast -setup it is only 40%, and it can be usually taped up to 70%. > let alone qualify with an AVERAGE lap of 191 mph. Are these guysbypassing > the 70 degree spoiler rule by changing the track type in the track.inifile, I tried to change the track.ini and then join to a mp race. It was just the test if one could cheat - and I couldn't because I got thrown out after the game had compared my track.ini with the servers track.ini.. Good job, papy!!! Mika Takala [email hidden]

My max speed on either straight is usually in the 189 range. I've recalibrated my controller so that full throttle happens before my gas pedal hits the stop, and the 0% position on the brake happens at about 1/10th of brake travel (i.e. I have to push the brake 10% before anything happens).

hmmm. i totally suck and have hit 200 mph at daytona in an offline race with 43 cars @ 90%. using default fast setup. mind you alone it is a bitch to hit the high 180s. I wonder if the game models weather and if that has an effect on speed. chris "Chris Cavin" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:0Dzk6.24$[email hidden]... > > > I refuse to believe that driving line makes a 4 mph difference at > flat-out > > > tracks like Talladega and Daytona. Load up the qualifying setup, change the tape to 70%, change the motor to race from qualify, bump the rear gear up high enough to just start to see the red light in the draft, and drop the wedge to 15 and you'll be good to go :) Don "Chris Cavin" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:5Zxk6.14$[email hidden]... > I'm curious what I'm missing here. Last week I was wondering why I was so off pace also. So I spent an hour and a half at Daytona doing some setup testing. Started with the qual setup, and just kept doing a qual run, then change one setup value a bit, do another qual run to see if I got faster or slower, and did this until I'd run out of things to adjust. My resulting setup was over .3s faster than I started out with, and now I'm right up there in speed with the fast guys :) So go do a bit of setup testing, and you'll figure it out :) Chris Cavin wrote:

Don't know about cloudy/sunny, but I bet that has some effect on track adhesion. As far as Daytona, I've hit a setup that lets me keep up with the draft pretty well. My problem is getting tight after mid-turns 3 and 4 after a few laps and having to lift. That'll put you behind in a hurry. Jerry Morelock
I must confess to backing off a bit on my assertions. I ran two "fixed" setup races tonight, one at Daytona and the other at Talladega. I qualified 4th out of 25 or so at Daytona then was taken out before the first turn. I qualified on pole at Talladega out of 30 or so and finished second by 0.019 seconds. Hmmm.... <chew> <chew> <chew> This crow tastes kind of gamey... -Chris- a.k.a. "Dirt"

Another thing that hasn't been mentioned yet...I ran a virtually perfect qualify lap on a setup I *knew* was fast, and finished 20th out of 24 or something - 3MPH behind the leaders. I think what happened was that the game didn't use my 'Qualify Setup' and instead used my 'Current Setup', which was my race setup and didn't have a qual motor! just a guess. -Phasor >"Chris Cavin" <[email hidden]> wrote in messagenews:dxGk6.396$[email hidden]... > I must confess to backing off a bit on my assertions. I think that the qualifying motor is always used during the qualifying session. The options in the garage screen are there so you can test a qualifying setup complete with qualifying motor during practice or an open testing session. On Thu, 22 Feb 2001 02:04:16 GMT, "Phasor" <[email hidden]> wrote:
