Speedvision secures live US coverage of 2001 F1 season

Posters welcomed news that Speedvision had secured rights to broadcast F1 live in the US for 2001, finalised just before the Australian GP. Discussion covered commentators, RealPlayer BBC radio coverage and concern for fans without Speedvision.

Automated summary.

BTW, if anyone here messes around with RealPlayer (audio and video streaming), BBC Five Radio -- accessible through RealPlayer -- will be providing live radio coverage of the race, and (I think) qualifying. Might be nice to watch Speedvision and listen to BBC Five to avoid the dreaded Silent Sam Syndrome. Anyone in the UK have any opinions on BBC Five's commentators? BB

You'll find that they do not stay with the race for the duration, nipping off to other important live sporting events of the day occasionally. Z. -- Please remove my_pants when replying by email.

Yes, this is old news, I watched most F1 events LAST year live on SV. Qualifying and races for that matter, just had to be sure to be up early enough on Sundays ;> edb Sheldon Hille <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

As I understand it, the terms were still under negotiation until this morning. Bernie probably wanted to squeeze out that last penny ;-) Sheldon Hille <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

They should get Danny Sullivan. He raced in F1 and is still a great racer and is very smart with a up beat personality. Sam puts you to sleep and keep's saying the dumbest things. Danny left racing to get into broadcasting and went to broadcasting school, Speedvision should pick him up. -- Solo1 C-Modified (CASC-OR/BARC) http://www.barc-oc.com http://www.casc.on.ca

Danny Sullivan did ABC races for CART until the Toronto race where he proposistioned a Large-Chested female race fan on the air.... haven't seen him much since then...:) dave henrie "Alan Orton" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > rrevved wrote: > > > > On Thu, 01 Mar 2001 16:37:01 GMT, Barton Brown <[email hidden]>wrote:

They will probably think they are being invaded by a bunch of swarming bees ;-) I checked to see if I had some blank tapes and didn't. So I went to get some and came home with a new vcr as well as some blank tapes. It's amazing what you can get in a VCR today for $99. http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11045611&m=1&cat=31&scat=243 To bad you don't live closer, it would be nice to watch qualifying and the race with someone other then my wife who keeps asking why aren't they any Americans in the race and when will it be over ;-) Btw ZZ I love your signature, we all knew it wouldn't take to long before people started cheating. I'm not 100% positive, but I don't believe they will, since they're concentrating all their resources on Nascar. I mean, on Sunday mornings on FSN, you've got 'Nascar This Morning' which is 1.5 hours long, and takes you up to the half hour pre-race show on FOX. I just don't see FSN showing tape-delay F1 at the same time they're doing Nascar. (All I can say is, I'm thankful my cable company went digital and got SV last October) "Kai Fuller" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:O4Fn6.36196$[email hidden]... > I sure as heck hope so. I've read that the Speedvision deal is exclusive, with the exception of the USGP at Indianapolis which will be also broadcast on an as yet unnamed network. Is that true?? Seriously, I am from Toronto, a huge CART fan, but I don't remember that. Do you remember what year? Marc. "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:GRBn6.493004$[email hidden]...

Do you remember what year? > Marc. It Must have been the year after he retired, which would be the year after he punted his teammate off the track twice in a season...so I'd guess 1993 was his last year..and then maybe 1994 would be the race he was the commentator. (I'm not good with keeping things in a correct timeline...) But what happened was this, as near as I can remember, ... The focus of the PRE-race reporting was the International flavor of the crowd in Canada. They were commenting on how the fan base more closely resembled a F1 event rather than a typical mid-western us fan. As proof they interviewed a couple of fans to find out where they were from. One was from South America(maybe) and the other was either Euro or American, but she had a thin halter top on that she filled out quite nicely. Now Danny WAS NOT the interviewer, he was up in the booth, but he passed a question or two onto the gal via the trackside reporter...and when the short question and answer segment was over, Danny asked the trackside reporter to get the gal's phone #....(and possibly made a headlight comment but that could just be me filling in the blanks...) Strange as it seems,,,I can remember that, but not what happened in the race..:) dave henrie
