I am pleased about one thing - if you very briefly exceed the
pit speed limit for an instant, they won't black flag you anymore
(is there an unspoken rule in real NASCAR about a 5 MPH
buffer on the pit speed limit? I can't believe that some official
with a radar gun BFs a guy if he goes to 56 MPH for one
second...).
I wasn't too surprised when I spun coming out of four and to get
back to my pit I had to cross the grass for a bit, and got
a penalty (tho don't spun-out cars do that all the time in
NASCAR?). Was still quicker than having to go all back
around with 2 flats...
But...I was VERY peeved just now when they BFed me for
(seemingly) absolutely no reason. I entered pit road fine,
exited okay (even used the outside lane like I'm supposed
to), crossed start-finish, never went above 55, and got a "you
didn't exit pit lane safely." WTFO? Then I realized that I
was flooring the throttle right after the car dropped down for
the last time-perhaps my tach exceeded the tach limit? (3500)
[they don't look at your actual speed???]
For some reason there is a little lag in there after the car
drops down when you just rev in neutral, then the guy says
"gogogo!" and then the wheels start spinning. Perhaps the
gas dude is still filling you up? Or are they really penalizing
you for revving before the "go" signal?
Either way it really POed me off, as I was running 3rd at the
time...
And what is with that idiot with the stop sign at the end of
pit road during yellows? I see cars exiting abreast all the time
in real life-if the official at that location actually stood where
he does in the game, he'd be roadkill (I almost hit him a
couple of times)...

What track was it? There is some known problems at Rockingham for that.
Still, when you exit the pits, make sure you MERGE carefully until you are
on the backstretch.

Uhhh, if you see a STOP sign, STOP ;) If you see a GO sign, GO!

No, he's there in real life!

Perhaps you merged onto the track too soon? You have to wait for a certain
spot on the track before you can merge into traffic.
Gunner
At Daytona for example, this was happening to me too, and I realized I was
being black flagged for merging onto the track across the yellow solid blend
line.

Listen for the spotter to give you the OK to merge, at Dega the line just
before the entrance to turn one.

Again-I didn't do that-I was well below the merge line when I crossed
start finish and got the message (besides it said something about exiting
pit road unsafely and not merging improperly).

Like he said, it has nothing to do with the S/F line. The merge line extends
well past the S/F line almost into turn 1.

Someone needs to check if revving too high before leaving your pit is
the problem (I'll check today)...or, as someone else mentioned the official
just 'had' it in for me... :-p

You still get BF'd (interpret as you wish) if you get spun out down into the
pits, too :(
After 4 revisions, I can't help but wonder why they haven't trapped for
that. You wouldn't think it would be hard:
procedure IsDriverSpeeding(YesNo:Boolean);
begin
IF
CarIsExceedingPitSpeed
AND
CarIsSwappingAssEndAround OR CarHasSwappedAssEndAround
AND
DriverIsScreamingHisHeadOff
AND
DriversDrawersAreSoiled
Then
YesNo := 1
Else
YesNo := 0
End;
Please don't bother to critique my code. I wrote my last Pascal application
in 1989, and I'm sure any compilor would have a fit with the above code :)

Uh, this doesn't make any sense...
When you exit the pit at Dega, the S/F line is WAY behind you.
When you leave the Pit, you HAVE to stay below the merge line well into turn
1. Right before the Apex, your Spotter should tell you it's ok to merge
safely onto the track.
The S/F line does not come into play here one iota, and I think that's why
everyone is confused.
If you ARE somehow doing something that is bring the S/F line into this,
then I have no doubt that you SHOULD be getting a B/F :)

In real life (and I'm pretty sure in the game as well) they don't use a
radar gun, but rather the time it takes you to cover certain sections of pit
road. In other words, they're measuring an average speed over a certain
distance. I don't know how big the sections are over which they measure it,
but If the speed limit is 55 and you go 57 for one tenth that distance and
53 for the rest, your average speed for that section is below 55 and you're
okay. This is way, way better than N3, where you got nailed for all but the
briefest excess.

It's not a bug, it's a feature ;-) If I had to pick just one thing to fix
in the game, this would be it.

"... didn't exit pit lane safely" means one of two things -- you got your
right wheels over the blend line before you should, or you exited the pit
when the man had the stop sign up. As others have said, the blend line at
Tally goes all the way into Turn 1, at which time your spotter will say
something like "okay, merge when you can". IIRC, at the end of pit road the
blend line is a long, long, way from the racing groove, so you could have
been over the blend line but nowhere near the track and got a penalty.

Your rpm's have nothing to do with pit road speed. The spotter will be
telling you something like "keep it under 3500 in 2nd", but you can run 5300
in 1st with no problem, the average car speed is the only thing it looks at.
Any problem in this area would have the spotter telling you "they caught us
speeding on pit road".

Another realistic piece of Nascar. The flagman at the end of pit road will
display the stop sign and not let anybody leave the pits from the time the
pace car gets there until the last car on the pace lap is by. Then he gives
the go sign and everyone can leave. Usually there's no problem because, by
the time you finish your pit stop all the cars have gone by. When you say
you almost hit him, that makes me think you crossed the blend line right
there. I'm not sure how it is at Tally, but at most tracks if you go to the
right of the flagman you're across the blend line. I use him as a guide to
where the blend line is and run right over the top of him every time.

Okay, I was watching the Darlington race closely last weekend, and
during yellows I didn't see the guy standing out on the pit stall white line
at the end of pit road like this guy is (from your description it sounds like
he is standing on the blend line to the RIGHT of pit road, not the left on
the solid pit lane line). Again if he stood there during a real race he would
get hit...
