N4: DirectX 8

I made a booboo when I installed N4, and selected to install the CD's DX8. I've since read posts here about NOT doing that. Is there a way I can go back to DX7, and then upgrade with the Microsoft site's DX 8 as posts here have suggested? Again, all help is very much appreciated...
