Dear all, Bar the more simple games (TOCA2, Colin McRae et al) has anyone actually completed a game? I have trying with Viper Racing for the last two years (extremely on and off) and I am very nearly there. I am also currently wasting my time with GP3 on the second-to-baby setting and am getting nowhere (first corner blues, every time, or making a simple mistake on lap 3/4) Besides just bombing around tracks, who has completed games on the top simulation level (race distance not included)? >Chris" <[email hidden]> wrote >Bar the more simple games (TOCA2, Colin McRae et al) has anyone actuallycompleted a game? The thing is, how can you "finish" a racing game? :) I've always been attracted to racing games in the 80's because you always had unlimited challenge. Sure you could win an offline championship in Nascar Racing 1, or finish every challenge of NFS:PU, but you could always try new stuff, new tracks, slower cars, faster cars, reverse tracks, etc... I don't think I ever "finished" a sim, but I sure mastered some. I mastered IndyCar Racing 2 perfectly, I can do anything with the car. I mastered Nascar 2 on the NROS at Talladega. Ask some of my favorite drafters there, they know we could do about anything there, every car movement was calculated and every feedback was understood. -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.ymenard.com/ -- People think it must be fun to be a genius, but they don't realise how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world.

I just bomb around in the Nascar games though since it seems impossible to keep the AI in line during the race and they never show up in the pits for a good scrap. - George
I "finished" Viper Racing. The GTS championship. I just couldn't seem to do it before, but after several months of GPL I came back to Viper to start over in the GTS division and somehow it had all become much, much easier. Blew the AI to hell and back and won the championship. I keep starting other championships in other sims, but I never come anywhere close to completing them. -- ------------------------------------- Morgan Vincent Wooten GPLRank: +10.02 http://home.earthlink.net/~morganv00/ ------------------------------------- "Chris" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:97rfc5$hfl$[email hidden]... I've been playing the Papy sims since Nascar 1 and ICR2 and still have tracks I've never driven on. And you guys have completed seasons? With championships? Sheesh, and I thought I had no life. :) (Tongue planted firmly in cheek) Russ, MCSE "Morgan V. The only championship I have completed with the Nascar games is a championship with the CTS Addon for N3 I spend too much time racing in leagues to race against the AI too much "Russell D. Laughlin Jr., MCSE" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:roio6.339982$[email hidden]...

I'm not sure what you mean by "completing games", but I've finished full-length races in NASCAR Racing 1, IndyCar Racing 2, NASCAR Racing 3 and a total of 13 full-length races in GPL. I'm not sure why, but beginning with Indianapolis 500 about ten years ago, I've never raced anything but full-length races. Never finished one in Indianapolis 500, though. -- J. Since then though I have alot less time - I start alot of championships, but often lose interest when it becomes obvious I can't win, or at least challenge for the title. Bear in mind I take a "career" attitude. Currently i'm in my 3rd Busch season in N3 (I got "sacked" twice and then "reinstated" for a new season - thats one of the good things about simming, you can justify anything against AI). I have to finish well, say top 5, to graduate up to Winston Cup. In GP3, I use a program I downloaded from AlphaF1 to keep track of my "career" - and when a new team offers me a contract i'll go there. For the time being, I keep making stupid mistakes in a Jag. In GPL - I still need to finish a damn race before I can "qualify" to run in the Championship. All this helps me immerse myself in the game. Even if it does seem sad ;-) It's nothing to do with "completing" the game, it's just a sort of challenge I set myself. DG
I never have enough time to devote to a sim to get that deeply involved in it. I'll usually check out all the tracks in the manual, find 3-6 that look really interesting, and just play those in the time that I do have. In GPL for instance, it was Monza, Watkins Glen, Spa, and the Ring. Or in the Nascar games, the superspeedways: Daytona, Charlotte, Michigan, Atlanta, Talledega, Indy, Texas, and California. But I will run the limited number of tracks I play into the ground, usually with the record for fastest qualifying lap, winning a few races, etc. Except GPL. <<Sigh>> Later, Russ "Disgruntled Goat" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > On Sun, 04 Mar 2001 03:12:23 GMT, "Russell D. I used to pick and choose certain tracks...but a new wrinkle in simming the last few years has "forced" me to run all the tracks. This is the GPLRank and F1CS2k Ranking sites. To get a GPL rank you must submit times at all the original tracks. Same for the CS rank site. The ONLY trouble with this is...there are a-lot of really good 3rd party tracks, especially for GPL, that I just don't drive much. Cuz my GPL time is usually compressed in the downtime of other leagues and I don't get much chance to improve. dave henrie "Chris" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:97rfc5$hfl$[email hidden]... I mean I started with a street stock and worked myself all the way to the top Rat Bag Grand National and won that championship. If you really work at it you can complete it in a week.
>Bar the more simple games (TOCA2, Colin McRae et al) has anyone actually = >completed a game? The closest I've come to "completing" a game was a 35 race N2 season (I added Gateway, that crappy Vegas from Thunder Valley way back when, and other such stuff) I had for myself (full realism, 100% AI), in which I raced the first 8 events before running out of time that summer. Had two wins and a top 5, but 4 dnfs (only one of which being an accident of my own fault). I've probably done about 10-15 full length runs otherwise. - Alan

*Completed* a racing game? I've run full seasons in Nascar 1&2, ICR 1&2, GP 1&2, GPL, & SCGT. I've also done full races in all of the above. Is that what you meant? No, I meant won the top season on the hardest (not most time consuming) setting. Much like me and Minardi winning 6 constructor titles and 5 driver championships with Giancarlo Fisichella in Grand Prix World over 10 years (game time, about 2 months real time).
