Can anyone tell me the manufacturers that there seem to be problems with?
And is there any solution yet?

It would probably be easier to ask which one's don't...
To start off, the Kenwood 72x is ok IF you install the latest firmware.
However, if there is a DVD drive (in my case, Pioneer DVD-113) or CDRW drive
(in my case, HP 9200 SCSI) also installed, you may have trouble.
I did. I had to remove the DVD AND the CDRW and put them in my server
instead.
It's sad, and this should not be an issue :(
The honest get inconvenienced terribly, and the pirates party on...

I can tell you it doesn't work right with my Memorex 48 speed.
I know this is just a re-badged drive made by someone else, but I
don't know who.
Unfortunately, I have one of these drives in each of my two machines,
so I have to play N4 with the crack and can't play online.
It also seems that people are having problems with DVD drives.
Tim
Works great with my AFreey 56X
The solution is for Sierra to remove the pathetic copy protection
scheme they are using and allow our CD Rom drives to perform as they
were designed to perform, instead of expecting them to read purposely
designed faulty disk sectors..
It doesn't work with my Panasonic 48 speed drive either, though every
other piece of software i own works faultlessly with it, so i won't be
changing it to compensate for N4's faulty system.
I will just have to keep running the no-cd crack on my legal software
to enjoy it, even though i can't use it on-line like i should be able
to do.
Cheers,
Ron

I have two Panasonic drives in my machine, so this worries me a bit. I have
a DVD ROM, and a CD Writer. Hopefully something will be sorted before the
UK release in a few weeks.
Does the problem only occur when you try to run the game, or does it not
like installing on some drives?

I have the Pioneer DVD-103s (basically the slot load version of the DVD-113)
and N4 works just fine. Do you have the 1.14 firmware for the DVD-113?

That's not how SecuROM works: http://www.securom.com

However it works Eric, it doesnt work for a stock standard
non-problamatical Panasonic 48 speed cd rom drive which gives me
absolutely no problems in any other software.
I can't even legally use my N4 on Sierra's on-line interface, because i
have to use a no-cd crack to play my legally bought damn game..
Companys that use this sort of crap are not hurting the pirates, just
the legitimate customers, so justify it how you like...

I thought I had the "copy protection"
problem on my Panasonic DVD drive, but a second disk works perfectly.

It installs fine, but kicks back to the desktop when you try to run
it.

They're claiming a 99.9% compatibilty with all drives on the market,
and I can tell you just from the number of people reporting problems
here that number is way off. I'd be hesitant to say the percentage is
much over 90.
The real kicker is that people are saying they are able to copy the
disc with CloneCD, which means this is all for nothing.
I'm not trying to take this out on you, because you're a good,
longtime RAS dude and this probably wasn't your decision, but I won't
be buying any more Sierra or Papyrus games that use SecuROM.
The warez is readily available, and legit purchasers like me are
getting screwed. It's really bad.
Tim
Had a Creative CD-RW 4224 and wouldn't work. Bought a generic 56x and worked
fine. BTW I don't know if I ever thanked you guys for that info. Thanks
