Great to see the Goodwrench Monte Carlo back in Victory Lane again. Even if
it's #29 instead of #3. Congrats to Kevin again.

Harvick's Atlanta win and the spoiler etiquette debate
A post congratulating Kevin Harvick for winning at Atlanta in the former Earnhardt Goodwrench team car drew complaints that the result was in the subject line without a spoiler warning. Posters debated newsgroup etiquette and the charter, then discussed Chevrolet's early-season dominance and Ford's complaints.

Ya, Harvick outta be singing the praises of Bodine on that
one, looks like the 24 will be dominant this season.

It would have been much nicer to see it with my own eyes!
Jeez -- do you think Kevin jumps out of the car and races
over to see what the guys in R.A.S. think an hour after the
race? I usually blame myself for checking any auto-racing
site or group, before I've seen the tape (one time I got burned
shopping for slot cars!), but I didn't think there'd be much
danger in checking out a sim group a half-hour after the
race ended.

Next time please put Spoiler in the title. In Europe we don't get
highlights of the race until next Sunday so I try to avoid seeing the
result. Unfortunately I haven't managed to do that today.

The proper response is, "Excuse me, I didn't really stop to think
about this being a global forum. I'll put Spoiler in the Subject line
next time. Sorry about that."
They're a pissy bunch because you spoiled their chance to let the race
unfold with the outcome unknown, just--I must point out--as it did for
you to your obvious enjoyment. I strongly suggest that you take a
step back for just a minute and ponder this from other people's point
of view.
Telling people to "get over it" ain't gonna cut it in most social
situations. Tell that to the room the next time you fart at an
important meeting with you boss and some clients.

But because even @home posted the headlines from today's race on their home

I really don't think there's a rule in the FAQ for this. There may be an
unwritten or 'understood' rule, but you can't punish someone for posting.

The only *sure* way to avoid seeing the results here is not to read the group.
The majority WILL post 'SPOILER', but there's always at least ONE person who
doesn't. In your case, you'd have to avoid the group for a week... :(
Besides, how long should one wait after an even before discussing it? Most
people who tape the race usually watch it within a day or two. What if they
don't watch it for 3 weeks? Are they going to be upset that someone mentions
the race two weeks from now? At that point, I'd say it was old news, but
what's the 'cut-off' date? It's a no-win situation...

Well said, besides, I don't mind it being spoiled. Nascar coverage is

They've BEEN complaining. Even though I like Dale Jarrett, I feel he's whining
too much...

I've suspected it for a while but you just confirmed it. Man, you are a sicko.
:)
Wings are for airplane and chickens. Not cars.
Road race? Yawn, wake me up with 3 to go...

look at the winning teams. DEI is definitely an up and coming unit, and if you put
$1M on the line each week he'd probably win half the races.
The one thought that does scare me is what's going to happen when Dodge gets it's
engine package sorted out? For something new as that to be contenders right out of
the box is scaring. Particularly when you consider it's lead team is one that just
last year was one of the laughing stocks of the paddock. I think before the year
is out they'll lose a little bit of spoiler.
Of course, the demise of the Rouschkateers is a huge thing. If they come back they
could be a force. Or, they could remain a farce. Is it possible that ford is
throwing away the first part of the season, hoping to get some help and then making
a run? Possible, but not likely. Could end up giving up too much ground that they
can't take back later.

Of course if you have 5 or 6 teams work together in R&D then you'll get some
results much quicker. I read some stuff where Chrysler orchestrated all the
testing, data sharing, and the like so all the teams would benefit from one
testing.
And of course, there's that Ray Evernham thing too.....

But if Ford isn't doing as well as they want, they should just work harder. In
my opinion, crying to NASCAR just means they can't win without help. They
should shut up and work harder. And I'll say it again - if NASCAR wants
everything totally *even*, make the races SPEC races. Everyone gets the same
car, and the best team and driver wins. These constant rule changes to give
one team an advantage, or take advantages from another are absurd. Don't
punish a team because they got it RIGHT...or help another because they got it
WRONG...sheesh.
