Hi has anybody successfully bump drafted in N4? I don't want to try it out online until I know it works. I'm not planning on doing it unless I'm on a straight and only if I'm a going a little bit faster than the guy in front. Any ideas? Is ping a factor?
Bump drafting does work in N4. I don't race online, but I don't think I would try it unless I had a fast connection and A LOT of practice. I've tried bump drafting with the AI cars and almost always come up on them so fast that I actually wind up crashing both of us. Gotta be real smooth. Lots of fun once you get it right. -- ------------------------------------- Morgan Vincent Wooten GPLRank: +10.02 http://home.earthlink.net/~morganv00/ ------------------------------------- "Kirk House" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:98ghrk$7am$[email hidden]... > Hi has anybody successfully bump drafted in N4? I haven't N4'd on line, but I have GPL'ed a lot, and in my experience if you get closer than a few feet to another car and either of you warps even a little, you'll both crash and burn. Problem is, the collision detection code can't handle the fact that your cars overlap for an instant, and assumes one of you hit the other at a million miles an hour, with drastic results. It may be that Papy has improved this for N4, but they can't have fixed it all. Bottom line is, if you bump draft somebody online you're probably asking for trouble. You have to understand that the Internet is not an ideal gaming environment, and leave a bit more room that you would in real life (or even in a LAN race). "Morgan V. I use it... but then I have the convenience of a LAN and a few human racers. :) RB

But, I've bump drafted many times in online GPL F3 races. In fact once I didn't just bump the driver in front of me, I pushed him most of a strait a way. :-) But again, just a tinny bit of warp and that ends it for both of you. I haven't attempted to bump in N4 yet but I have been bumped and it did work for both of us. In both cases we had perfect connections, so....
My league raced at Daytona on Friday, and we did some bump drafting in practice. We found the bump to be far less beneficial than it was in N3. The "bumpie" barely feels any acceleration from the bump. The "bumper" sees the "bumpie's" car squat down in the rear, rather than pushing him ahead. We decided that it's not worth the risk. -Paul Western States Racing League www.wsrl.n3.net "Kirk House" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:98ghrk$7am$[email hidden]... > Hi has anybody successfully bump drafted in N4? Hey Kirk, whats up? I would only bump draft people you know. Others can get pissed. I know I successfully bump draft my team mate all the time...it helps both of you...you just need cooperation. The lead car must stay straight and the following car must hit nice and square. If either of you flinch, the lead car will probably spin. Just lift the gas a little so you don't hit too hard. If you want bump drafting then race Daytona on the EASY setting in Nascar Heat. Woowieee...you can't get anywhere without being banged HARD or doing the banging then grabbing the draft for a pull to the front...what a hoot...real?? nawwwwww but fun at times. dave henrie "Paul E" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > > My league raced at Daytona on Friday, and we did some bump drafting in > practice. If there's no warp, it works fine. If there's warp, then....
