It amazes me that the majority of guys here clamor so vocifirously for
realism, yet one of the most important parameters of realism has yet to
be implemented in a sim.Why has no one to my knowledge , ever
recommended that driver weight should be factored into sims. most of the
racing series have weight restrictions that use driver weight + car
weight minimums and maxs.it would be cool to race a couple of months
with the car/driver weight at one setting, then realizing that you put
on 10 pounds and have to change the overall handling of the car. Seems
like it might be something the West Bros might want to add to their game
for maximum simness...lol.

Because most of us who sit for hours in front of computer screens have
turned into big, fat, dinks. I think the only racing class in which my
weight wouldn't be a MAJOR penalty would be Tractor Pulling.
BTW, the word is "simnosity" or "simnaceousness," but "simness" was a
nice try...
MGPRS2 had driver weight... whether it was factored into the sim I don't
know.

You can add it as the weight of the car itself. Although ofcourse loss
of fluids makes the driver lighter during the race. :)
Still, I don't think many people would set it higher than the lowest
setting.
What's more interesting is the *place* of the driver. I've thought
about (but it's on a low priority) to actually have the mass push
where the driver is, so the car rolls left when the driver is on the
left. :)
But other things are more important now, for me at least.
Still, these minor details are what can hype a sim, strangely enough.

Hehe, how true. I call it the degeneracy of the sim market. It's
something that might have contributed to the collapse of the flight sim
market, incidentally. Too much resources spent on the details only a
handful of vocal people screamed for.

I can understand that. I should build in the driver thing just to
boost Racer's popularity. ;-)
People tend to forget that setting your tire friction coefficients too
high for example has far more consequences than a driver's weight
being included explicitly (I assume btw all sims just add the driver's
weight in their car mass for simplicity).
I think a more Killer idea would be to upgrade those per-200m
timelines in the F1 track, use GPS all the way, send it to a server,
then export the data to around the world, where you can race LIVE
against the real F1 people, selecting a car you want to drive in (so
that won't get displayed). Ofcourse you won't be able to do collision
detection, but God will it be fun to drive against actual F1
drivers!!!
And to downsize this idea, it would be most great if the cart races
that you can do personally could be recorded more precise so you get a
replay-disk for your sim at home, and you can race against your own
real ghostcar.
Those are the things that could and should revolutionize
interactivity. Most other stuff is just 'I can now use the mouse to
click on the radar' uninteresting stuff.
And I have some other idea about replays, but well that's when I have
multiplayer in, which may be a long time still.

a neat idea, and I think something similar is already available for Indy
500, or at least it was a couple of years ago. With F1, this would only
reach new heights!

GPL asks for the driver's weight on first installation, doesn't it? It's
been over 2 years ago, so I don't clearly remember.
Bye,
Leo
That would give some new motivation for loosing weight then:)

I think the only racing class in which my >weight wouldn't be a MAJOR penalty would be Tractor Pulling. There's the cars Dry weight and then the weight of the car with fuel and
driver. In the setup screens, setting the fuel to 1 gallon will give you
something like 173ish pounds more then the dry weight. Then every gallon
you put in, it adds 6.x pounds to the overall weight. The 173 pound
difference is a driver weighing 167 pounds plus the one gallon of fuel. I'm
not 100% sure of the exact numbers but...

A great idea would be to enhance that cushion which vibrates with
low-frequency sound and have it measure your weight automatically. ;-)
