GPL replay max size?

Having watched "rms-f2" set an F2 'Ring qualifying lap in an online race yesterday that was a full minute faster than my F1 record time, I decided it was time to get the Ferrari revving round the Nordschliefe again. To my delight I managed to complete a lap with *no spins at all*, and made it round in 8:50. Whoop! My previous PB was 9:46....... Unfortunately GPL didn't "remember" my entire lap so I can't save a full lap replay. So, my questions to RAS are: (1) how do I increase the length of replay that GPL saves whilst I'm driving, and (2) what should I increase this to, on my 128mb RAM system? Thanks, Jim

The replay size may decrease dramatically if you turn off the cheesy effects like dirt and smoke. +Cinquo

I'd suggest you leave the smoke on. It give you a bit of warning when there's a wreck in front of you... That saved me more than once in my league race at Spa Saturday... Has anyone set up a replay Override larger then 4 meg? 4 meg does it's job for the basic replays but I'd like to save all the smoke, dust, et.. and most importantly, The skid marks of a full grid online GP race. Odds are I don't have enough to do this but just assume I did! what would it take to get ALL the information saved for such a task? Thinking about it... Without doing a trail and error session, Is there a way to measure how much ram is being used? Some kind of an application that will measure this and in doing so tell me I have X amount more available to set the override to? Forget about the concept of "if you use too much you'll crash the system or what ever. I'd like to know what it takes to keep the full amount of info. As mentioned once before, I've watched replays where the skid marks started creating their own race line separate from the drawn race line. Problem was that there's a limit to how much of those skid marks are available before they're redrawn, or erased. Maybe there's a formula of some kind that can give me an idea of how much these skid marks use and with some figuring I could by the terabit of ram... you get the picture. I have saved a full GP + just over an hour of Practice before. But that was with many graphics turned off as I thought at the time that would help save a bigger replay. So the length of the replays aren't the problem if I ran 50% or smaller full grid races with everything turned on. I need to find out what it takes to save a full race worth of skid marks and other graphics.
I think , freeing space disk where your GPL is instaling does it to DcW Jim L a crit :

Don't quote me but I think that's 4 meg(?) I have 30000 setup and the skid marks disappear quite quickly. If you're is 40 meg then mine is 30 meg. And that would tell me to up it by another 3000% to keep the marks there if that's the way it works. I wish someone from papy would step up and say Yes it works that way, or No it's set internally for maximum amount of skid marks. Either way, That's 40000. Anyone using more?
I thought that GPL only needed 32 Mb, so anything over 32MB could be used for the replay. Mine is set at 60000 with 128Mb RAM. The number is Kb of memory, according to the following taken from a "verbose" core.ini file: [ Replay ] replayMemoryOverride = 2000 ; Amount of memory for the replay buffer (KB). ; 32000K will do about a full race; make sure ; you've got enough memory in your system. ; Default = 2000 Does the level a graphic detail affect replay size? I thought the replay just stored telemetry and the detail shown depended on the graphics settings of the PC it was being viewed on? I never see graphics in replays that I have turned off while racing. Ken Michael Barlow wrote:

Who's machine were we using to host the Silverstone race in the GPLF3R? I'll have to look it up but I thought it was yours? That had everything there! hmm... Norman hosted Silverstone and I believe he runs with most of the graphics maxed out. . Ken Michael Barlow wrote:

Here a question, I have the UMCServer sitting here with 32MB of RAM in it, and it can only save about one lap of a race. If I increase the core.ini value to save them larger, at what point is the replay file too large for the 32MB? I would hate to impact performance of the server to get a replay. If in increase it 10 fold it will still only get 10 laps, most leagues do 20+ lap races. I think that would case pauses in the game play, but I am unsure. The computer has pleanty of disk space. We are talking about a Pentium 200, with no 3d card. SLG (All spelling errors are intentional and are there to show new and improved ways of spelling old words. Grammatical errors are due to too many English classes/teachers)
Don't know if this is relevant to a dedicated server but from http://www.simracing.com/alison/gpl/faq-hw.htm#memory 6.1 How much memory do I need to run GPL? Will more memory make it run faster? Papyrus says the minimum is 32 mb. I think having 64 mb may speed things up at certain points, but I don't think it will make a huge difference in overall frame rate. However, with 32 mb you will be able to save only very small replays. As I recall, with 32 mb I could save only a lap or two at the shorter tracks. With 64 mb I could save about 7 to 10 laps of solo play (i.e. no AI or remote players) on tracks like Kyalami and Monza. Trying to save a replay of an entire lap at the Nurburgring was marginal. With 128 mb, it's possible to save enormous replays. I have replays of most of the Papy Cup races, which are Intermediate Long races (roughly 25 to 30 laps at the shorter tracks) and we usually have a dozen or more players. Almost all of the replays include the entire race and the last part of practice, except at Zandvoort where there were almost 20 players and a lot of smoke and dust was generated, which takes up a lot of room in replays. There, I have all but the first lap of the race. These replay files are typically 20 to 25 mb in length. So, regarding memory, I suggest getting as much of it as you can afford, and the faster the better. Update: there is an exception to this. Many Pentium Classics do not have the capability to cache memory above 64 mb, so installing more than 64 mb memory could actually cause GPL to run much worse. See the frame rate and CPU sections of this FAQ for details. Update: you can make GPL save long replays even if you have only 64 mb of memory. Using a text editor such as Notepad, create a file called core.ini in your GPL main folder (by default, c:\SIERRA\gpl) and add these lines: [ Replay ] replayMemoryOverride = 30000 This will make GPL allocate 30 mb of memory for replays, while reserving 34 mb for GPL itself, which is plenty. This will allow GPL to save replays of up to 30 mb in length. If you have more memory, you can try increasing the memory allocation. For example, if you have 96 mb of memory, you may be able to allocate more than 60 mb (replayMemoryOverride = 60000). Steve Garrotto wrote:
