F1RC: AI just too crappy to be true

I just can't understand why people say F1RC is good. I've played it for two days now (not just a few laps, but really played a lot) and the game is really good. Awesome. Great. Love it. But the AI ruins it all. It's just incredible. Sometimes they see me, sometimes they don't. I played about 25 races now, and only 2 times I wasn't kicked off or run into by the AI. Just now I tried to finish a race. I was 6th. In the last lap I became 5th. In the last corner I made a little little little mistake: I pushed the brakes a fraction of a second too early. And BANG the ran into me. Crap. Complete utter crap. I watched a lot of replays after being pushed of the track. Usually the AI just runs into me. For instance: there were two cars behind me. One of them overtook the other, drifting from the ideal line. When he came to the corner he just ran his car into mine to get his car on the ideal line. As if I wasn't there. Starts are also utter crap. The AI just doesn't see you. Let me say it again: I didn't play the game for 5 minutes. I played it for two days. And it's just too frustrating: seeing all your hard work ruined by some crap AI driver. It happens too often. I can give more examples, but there is only one conclusion: if you're into time trials: get this game. It's awesome. If you're into racing the AI: forget it. It's just too crappy to be true. It's evenso crappy that I can't believe the patch will help: the entire AI should be rewritten. As far as I know they will only make the AI less aggressive. Not more intelligent. Damn, what a bullshit this is: even before the game was in the stores the patch was announced. Didn't they TEST the bloody game? It's going back to the store tomorrow. And boy, am I disappointed. Specially because I can't get my money back here: I'll have to trade it for another game they have in store. Any suggestions...?

If you have a CPU > 800 MHz buy F1 CS 2000. The AI is pretty good but needs a few modifications. Buy it and I'll tell you what to do. which will include : 1. AI setup modification 2. AI Agression adjustment After that you'll be racing tail to tail, waiting for 4-5 laps to overtake and never fear they'll kick you out. Anything else sir ? ;) Hello Goodbye <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3ac71a1c$0$29352@reader3... > I just can't understand why people say F1RC is good. Hi Jagg, In case you missed my post down in "F1RC -Almost Perfect" in reply to you, here is a copypaste: I agree the cars feel like "hovercraft" ! Nice description ! "Tires feel like floating above the ground and the suspension's so incredibly rigid as if the tire is just a rigid extension of the chassis. Everybody knows how the tires bang up and down on the curbs. Now don't tell me the springs are way too stiff. Even a stiff spring would squeeze and elongate at those forces. The nose as seen from the cockpit does not move even 1 mm up or down. How are supposed to feel how hard we are braking ? By the digits ? Also the rotational velocity of the tire is awful, it is NOT in sync with the lateral velocity of the car. That also makes the brand on it readable at 300 km/h ! . And no feedback squeels from the tires ? Oh, sure, after you lost all the control. "Hovercraft" ? I couldn't agree more. Thanks, Jagg : ))))" Jagg <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Any of you guys watch the Brazilian GP today?? Ask Montoya or R Schumaker about being 'kicked out'! Iain > After that you'll be racing tail to tail, waiting for 4-5 laps to overtake > and never fear they'll kick you out. Anything else sir ? ;) > >
There are only 3 or 4 foolish aggressors on the real track unlike the 21 on poorly coded sims. So no fools would be a better approximation to reality, wouldn't it ? Here Here. If you have the CPU to take advantage, F1 CS 2000 is much more satisfying and complete than F1RC. AI problems aside, I believe F1 CS 2000 to be more realistic as far as the feel of the car. <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9a7mdp$pk5$[email hidden]...

You have got to be joking, the cars in F1 CS don't respond anywhere near as fast as a real F1 car does. -- Ian P <email invalid due to spam> Koenig <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Here Here. > > If you have the CPU to take advantage, F1 CS 2000 is much more satisfying > and complete than F1RC. > > AI problems aside, I believe F1 CS 2000 to be more realistic as far as the > feel of the car.
In order to know the response time YOU have to trigger it. Have you ever done it in a real F1 car ? Ian P <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9asvj8$gev$[email hidden]... > You have got to be joking, the cars in F1 CS don't respond anywhere nearas

No I haven't done it, but I've driven a road car with faster responses than F1CS, an F1 car is known to respond far faster than any road car ever made. You can see how responsive an F1 car is just from watching one on TV. F1CS just doesn't come close. Maybe if they corrected the values for the physics it would be a good sim, but as it stands it just doesn't impress me at all. -- Ian P <email invalid due to spam> <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9at7i1$dg1$[email hidden]... > In order to know the response time YOU have to trigger it. Ian did you ever get a chance to drive F1cs2k with John Bodin's all chassis patches? I think they tracked most of the sluggishness down to the overly soft sidewalls on the tires. dave henrie "Ian P" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9avrq1$o61$[email hidden]... > No I haven't done it, but I've driven a road car with faster responsesthan > F1CS, an F1 car is known to respond far faster than any road car evermade.

No, I haven't tried it, I got F1CS the day I got F1RC and to be honest I'm having so much fun with F1RC that I haven't modified CS at all. I did try the patch available for F1 2000 that improves responses but it totally screwed the AI. Does the all chassis patch also improve throttle response and engine responsiveness, it feels as though it's got a 6 foot flywheel attached the time it takes to spin up to speed <G>, a F1 sim should have similar engine responsiveness to a sportsbike. If it does I'll give it another try, though I doubt it would replace F1RC as my current favourite F1 sim. Nearly forgot, where can I get the all chassis patch from ? IMO F1RC is a more rounded F1 simulator than the EA sports offerings, I agree it's not perfect, but it runs well on my Athlon 750, it also looks better (again IMO) with a clearer view of the track and virtually no slowdown. I'm running on an Athlon 750, 256MB RAM V4 4500 and F1CS just seems to struggle when a full field of cars are around, F1RC with the same resolution doesn't have that problem and looks better. Another thing I'm not keen on with F1CS is the kerbs, they don't seem to have much of an effect on the car and all seem roughly the same, does the patch make them feel more realistic ? In F1RC they are all different and can easily throw you off track or spin you around if you attack them wrong. Having said all that, I don't think F1CS is a bad simulator, it just doesn't really give me what I would like from a F1 sim, F1RC isn't perfect either it needs the AI sorting out, they can indeed be stupid at times, but there again even GPL's AI can be idiotic from time to time :) the FF is poor and we really need an F1 sim which can be run with a full field online. In 2001 is it really too much to ask ? Sorry for the rant, got a bit carried away there for a while ;) -- Ian P <email invalid due to spam> Dave Henrie <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:fDOA6.2427$%[email hidden]... > Ian did you ever get a chance to drive F1cs2k with John Bodin's > all chassis patches?
