Hi guys....
I have a couple more ops/race setup questions for N4:
Player Mechanical Failures:
The manual shows a checkbox under the Damage setting scroll down box....I
don't have this (in any of the 5 N4's I have installed). There is a setting
(default looks like it is "0") in the Player.ini text file....changing this
doesn't make the "box" show up. Is this a known bug? How do you set Player
Mechanical Failures? How does this work for MP...Dedicated Servers?
MP - Total Player Limits:
I set this during the process of setting up the DS.....next to each "allow
connection" type. If I set this for 10 players, it shows up on Sierra.com
as 21 players (max). If I set it at 12....it shows up as 25 players (max).
Am I doing something wrong....is there another place I need to set this
limit as well as in the connection type settings? Is this a known bug? If
so, which number is actually being applied?
Thanks for the info,
Tom
PS: Surely Dave Henrie knows all this stuff?

at
the simracing.org server. I 'beleive' the option for mechanical failures
was not
included in the final release..the box is still there but it is not
implemented.

This, according to a certain Mr. Busch, is a feature that was dropped. The
piccy in the manual is from an earlier build.

According to Eric Busch, this setting has no effect, but I think you may
have already read that.
I think you have to make this seting in the [Dedicated Server] section.
For some strange reason, Papy has 4 or 5 sections in the player.ini that
contain similar (if not exactly the same) data. It would have been much
eaiser to understand if they had only one section containing the same
setting with additional sections containing the unique stuff.
I'll be the first to admit that probably the last thing that goes
through a programmers mind is whether or not the organization of the
associated INI files makes sense to anyone but me. Lately though, it's
become more imporatnant to make sure a given ini file is organized well
so that I know where to find my app's data. Trying to write DeMONS/2 is
a minor-to-moderate nightmare where understanding the player.ini is
concerned.
You'll be happy to here that the DeMONS/2 launcher is about 80%
finished. Once that's done, I'll be writing a "local" host
configuration utility that will smooth out setting up the dedicated
servers. This should make the lives of all the server admins easier
until the rest of DeMONS/2 (race client, remote admin/configuration,
host monitor, and chat) is finshed.

The setting is in the player.ini file though (in half a dozen places).
That's why there's some confusion.

setting is device specific, so if you have TCP/IP set to 10 and IPX set to
10 with both enabled, that's a total of 20 allowed connections. If you only
want to allow 10 connections and want to use both TCP/IP and IPX, first
decide how you want the connections split up, and then change the number of
allowed connections for each device (for example, you might want to allow
just a single local IPX connection and have the other 9 as TCP/IP
connections via sierra.com).

The game has multiple modes (testing, single race, championship season,
multiplayer host, dedicated server, etc.) which all have similar (if not
exactly the same) options, and by separating the INI each mode is able to
have it's own unique set of independently stored options. That way when you
change race options in single player without having it affect your
previously selected multiplayer race options.

Damn. That answer actually makes sense... :-)
I thought I had you that time, Eric... :-)

TP
Thank you once again Eric.....that makes total sense as well. I wasn't
thinking about IPX "driver allowances" being added to the TCP/IP ones. I
also didn't realize (since I'm the IPX driver...and in the race)....that
Sierra.com would display me as in the IPX race...while the other drivers are
in the TCP/IP race...even though they are one in the same race. Does this
mean that if I connected via IPX/local LAN.....even though I utilized the
Sierra.com display.....that' I'm not part of the Internet upside bandwidth?
