Opinions of Swedish Touring Car Championship 2

A user asked about STCC2. Most praised it as the best touring car sim, with excellent lag-free multiplayer but few online players, and some who initially disliked the handling changed their minds after trying community setups. Availability was limited outside Europe.

I haven't seen any reviews for this game and was just wondering what peoples opinion was ? Also what's the multi player game like ?
If it's as good as STCC1 - then it rocks. I've got my copy of STCC2 winging it's way from Amazon as we speak Doug "MJS" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9apn38$f02$[email hidden]... > I haven't seen any reviews for this game and was just wondering whatpeoples > opinion was ? You can get it from www.amazon.co.uk - i guess amazon.com might stock it to? - Although in trying to get a dig cam for my Handspring Visor - that's NOT the case Doug "redTed" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9aql4e$68qqf$[email hidden]...

Don't know about the multiplayer game (yet to try it), but as far as I'm concerned STCC2 is the best touring car sim at the moment. Believable physics (it's not GPL, but...), nice graphics/sound, runs smoothly and AI is managable once you get to know them. EA have picked it up over here it's now readily available in stores. Don't know about the US, sorry. Jan. =--- MJS wrote... > I haven't seen any reviews for this game and was just > wondering what peoples opinion was ? Also what's the multi > player game like ? > >

Have the patches solved the weird car behaviour? Andre
I played this game pretty solidly for a week or so, now, and I've changed my opinion radically- it IS a good game! My argument about the car not feeling right was (mostly) putto rights by a pre-made setup for my wheel, and my other main beef was the ultra-quick slowing of the car when I took my foot off the pedal...turns out it wasn't actually doing that, but the engine sound told me that it was. So, maybe some sort of sound fix is in order, but this really is rather a good game! (Look for Stig Harris in the Telenordica server, that's me...) So, <through gritted teeth> I...was...wron.....(no, I can't even type it!) -- Colin ICQ 25485061 Jan Verschueren <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Don't know about the multiplayer game (yet to try it), but as far as I'm > concerned STCC2 is the best touring car sim at the moment. Guess the same goes for me too... I didn't think much of it either but other peoples enthousiasm about it made me give it another shot... Then i started trying other people's set-up's i found on the net. Whoa, that made a difference! Turned out that the problems i had with steering was totally dependent on the car's set-up and not the wheel set-up. Only wish for a bit tougher AI though... There was some really wrong with the car behaviour, but I couldn't lay my finger on it. Is has been too long ago for me to remember exactly, but I believe it was something like this: When you were driving too fast into a corner, normally you would give less throttle to get the car closer to the apex. But in STCC2 you got closer to the Apex when you pushed the throttle! I remember Greger Veble explained the problems of STCC2 here in an excellent post, I tried to find it for you on Deja, but no luck :( Besides, steering itself felt wrong, at least with my LWFF. Hard to describe, but when entering a corner the car would hardly turn, and then suddenly it turned way to much. Steering in STCC2 compared to my real life steering was out of sync.. (does that makes sense? :) Andre

Interesting.. As I just posted above in this thread, I have a weird steering behaviour too, but this will be solved by chancing the car setup?? Do you have an url for me please with some setups I could try? Andre

Hi...i purchased the game 3-4 months ago, but I can not in any way follow the great drivers from Sweden, Norway and Finland...:( I used to drive with keyboard and automatic gearbox... Now 2 weeks ago I bought a LWFF wheel, but for now I have to get used to the wheel after 3 years with keyboard :(....havent succedeed in better laptimes with wheel yet, but i'm working on that...:) I think my setup's too slow. Where did u find that setup's mentioned? The only ones I can find is Anteras', Mikko's and Pelle P's...and with those setup's I'm always in the gravel/grass...:( -- Med venlig hilsen / Best regards Thore Sorensen - [email hidden] DK-2700 Bronshoj - Denmark
I'm not sure it will solve all your problems, but you really oughtta give it a try. I've found set-up's for the BMW made by a guy named Mikko on http://www.stcc2.net/ and they are very good. Tried the same set-up with the Volvo and Audi and i was all over the track, that's when i started realising that my steering probs didn't came from my wheel-settings, but from totally wrong set-up's by me... I've got a couple of set-ups(5 or 6) for the Alfa(best car in the game) that work quite well with a wheel and pedals. I think the fastest guy's are all using joysticks, though. Can't be certain, but their set-ups don't seem suited at all to a wheel. Anyway, let me know if you want these set-ups.
Throw your old Alfa teammate a bone here... thanks. Spamblock should be easy to unravel. Jan. =--- redTed wrote...

Can't say I noticed that, but as I find it fairly easy to place the car consistently in STCC2, I rarely have to correct anything. Provided, of course, the situation is salvagable in the first place. <g> > I remember Greger Veble explained the problems of STCC2 here > in an excellent post, I tried to find it for you on Deja, but > no luck :( Don't worry about it, I can't work that site either. The physics model is indeed basically flawed somewhere, as demonstrated aptly by the "Formula DICE"-cars which are given as a bonus when you win the STCC. They handle absolutely nothing like single seaters and respond rather bizarly to control inputs at times (not to mention the impossibility of spin control). They're not the cars I bought the game for, however. Like I said before, it's not GPL, but it's much more believable than TOCA2, for example and IMO. > Besides, steering itself felt wrong, at least with my LWFF. > Hard to describe, but when entering a corner the car would > hardly turn, and then suddenly it turned way to much. If by this you mean the cars have a final understeering characteristic and therefore tend to drift over the front axle and, when you pull the tyres over the top of the slip angle curve, the steering going very light as the car slides over the front axle (usually straight off the track). I'd say you were right and that was exactly what I would expect the cars to do. If you mean anything else... nope, can't say I've noticed it, I'm sorry (LWFF here too, as you know). Again, force feedback is not up to GPL level and lacks severely in subtlety, but it's, IMO, perfectly adequate to know the attitude of the car and how close to the limit it is. Like I said, I find it very easy to pick my line and place the car in the game. > Steering in STCC2 compared to my real life steering was out > of sync.. (does that makes sense? :) Yup, control lag... present in many sims (e.g. GP3 before the patch), but can't say I've noticed it much in STCC... maybe a little at the start of races when there's lots o' cars in view. I've got the "damping forces" set fairly low in my LWFF configuration (something like 30%) and I reduced the overall strength somewhat for STCC2... maybe that makes a difference? Jan. =---

Somewhere I have a post to me about a fellow in the States trying to purchase STCC2. I think I gave him the original Sweedish site that was selling it... but he wants to use the phone to avoid the risk of his credit card being swiped. Unfortunately the # that was on the website doesn't seem to be working.. does anyone have a mail order house in Europe (preferably one that speaks English) With a phone # that this guy can call...<<assuming I can find his email again>> dave henrie "Jan Verschueren" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...
