rFactor pre-orders open via PayPal

Uwe Schürkamp announced that rFactor could be pre-ordered through PayPal, and many regulars said they had paid $39.99 immediately. Posters praised ISI's openness and debated whether a flood of mods would follow, with Jason Moyer predicting few would be any good. Larry suggested gathering the RASCAR drivers again for rFactor.

I've paid as well, ($47.99 Canadian). It's a violation of a lesson learned the hard way over the years, not to buy software until it's been out for a while and I've read numerous reviews, but I REALLY like the way these guys are going about their business, fully open to and involved with the sim community, and that deserves our support. Ah, so you're the one funding iRacing or whatever they call themselves this week, and here we all thought it was John Henry, go figure.... Please don't tell anybody, but I'm the true owner of the Red Sox. Why do you think they always have ex-Expos players in the team? "Remember the NROS? It's back... in Pog form!" I really hope it is the kind of quantum leap the AutoSimSport guys seem to think it is. Although steady progress has been made we have been somewhat starved of that major release (especially for open wheeler fans) since dare I say it, GPL. Before that big steps were a regular occurence; Indy 500, F1GP, Indycar, Nascar, GP2 etc. I was beginning to think we weren't going to get that big release that takes most areas forward and doesn't have a weak area. Looks like we will have to wait for the weather implementation though. Lets hope it lives up to expectations and we can have a fully rounded single and multiplayer sim which sets the benchmark for future development. Cheers Tony

I just love the demo, it makes me grin in ways even LFS S2 can't manage for some reason. While mentioning LFS, I really hope there aren't many tracks and vehicles in rF. I miss the simplicity of the early days of GPL. Just a few cars, a few really good tracks, and a *lot* of competition. Spread everyone out over a hundred track/vehicle combinations and life gets less interesting. Andrew McP

Agree with all of that. Sounds like we find out next week. :-) Some new, great looking screenshots of cars that look like they'll be fun to drive http://rfactor.net/rfmotors/h6/motorsport.html -- David G Fisher

Yes, I have fears of floods of mods. Quality control could be one factor - working out what mod to actually drive with could become a nightmare! :) Not the same with tracks though - the more the better imo - this is key to longevity if you ask me.
Byron Forbes wrote: > Yes, I have fears of floods of mods. Quality control could be one > factor - working out what mod to actually drive with could become a > nightmare! :) Eh. Within a month of the sim coming out, there will be 50 mods announced. Of those 50, about 10 will ever see completion, most of them in 1-2 years. Of those 10, maybe 3 of them will manage to attain even mediocrity, and if you're lucky 1 of them will be worth spending any considerable amount of time driving.

Jason, you are without doubt, the biggest Papy fan boy I have ever seen :-) There will be AT LEAST two high quality modern F1 mods, an F2 mod, and the Pits will have an extremely high quality mod released soon after rFactor is ready for download. That's four........ -- David G Fisher

My reason for pre-paying is that with an online release there's no end of potential for delays and problems in the initial post-release rush. Of course if you plan to be patient and wait a week or two until the dust settles, you'll avoid any initial issues. I just think half the fun of a new sim is being there right at the start exploring the new experience, especially with something as promising as this. Andrew McP

No, you can pay with CC/bank card when it's available. I did it so I have my unlock code in front of me the SECOND the download finishes.
