DX8.1 SUCKS! IT BROKE MY SYSTEM! DON'T EVER BUY FROM MS!
things like that.

i just looked at the WEBpage...it's a beta so take that into
consideration.
AND there is a warning further down that developers supporting Win95
should continue to use dx8.0
So should we be advising win95's to stay away from that for now?

I dl'd it last night, probably just after it became available . . . but I've
been too much of a scaredy-cat to install it.

GForce 2 didn't work for me at all but other folks say it's terrific.
There's always going to be a computer somewhere where something won't
work, but generally DX is pretty well nailed down before it's
released, even as a beta.

DirectPlay broke a
lot of joysticks including Mircosoft's own Sidewinder! This set up a strange
situation for folks who bought MS Flight Simulator 2000 to go with thier MS
Sidewinder. The program required DX7 to run right but if you installed it
the MS joystick broke. Either way you were SOL.

That's just asking for trouble.

Its the exactly the same as with DirectX 8.0A given that it only adds a new
feature or 2 & fixes some kryo issue.
New in this version:
Support for new high precision texture formats.
New nPatch quadratic interpolation order.
DirectX 8.1 will be shipped as an integral part of Windows XP DirectX 8.1
will also be available for all versions of Windows 98 & Windows 2000.
Developers choosing to support Windows 95 should continue to use DirectX
8.0.
A DirectX AppWizard for Microsoft Visual C++ v6.0 is included in the DirectX
8.1 release.
