Okay, so I'm making some (newbie) assumptions here and I'd like some
feedback, if I may.
I think it's fair to say that, with the right setup, the Lotus is the
quickest, but most car challenging (i.e. difficult) to drive?
The Ferrari as the best 'all-rounder' (quoting Alison Hine)?
The Eagle seems to me to be the most predictable of the quick three (with
the Ferrari and Lotus)?
The Cooper and Honda are slower cars but are more user-friendly and
therefore popular learner cars?
The Brabham I have not tried yet to any great extent and therefore can't
comment; they seem very rare VROC attendees though?
The BRM is an unpopular first choice but appears to be (again with the right
setup) somewhat of a dark horse?
Now I know that any of the GPL cars can be quick, so please don't shoot me
down for 'dissing' your campaigning choice. But I would like to know if I'm
wide of the mark or not.
By the way, I seem to have been swayed by the Eagle since my regular racing
two months ago, but I'm considering giving the Ferrari some time.
Thoughts, please.

Choosing a car in Grand Prix Legends
A newcomer asked whether the Lotus is fastest but hardest, the Ferrari the best all-rounder and the Eagle the most powerful. Experienced players broadly agreed, ranked the cars by pace, debated the torquey Brabham, and recommended setup collections from Alison Hine, Nunnini, Woeger and others, along with steering ratio and trail-braking tips.

People often have favourite car and may go out in that 'cos they like it.
They may be in a "Chuckable" mood ( Ferrari , Cooper ) , they may be in a
"Fastest car for the track mood" ( Eagle loves Spa , Lotus just about
anywhere else ! )
Your assessment is pretty close to the mark , but everyone has their own
take on it. If I'm drunk , I need the Red Slug , or I'm going to be
examining the bushes ! You may find people out in a BRM ( Black Pig )
because they're too good for the rest of the field , or they want to improve
their Monsters of GPLRank , or they know they don't know the course and want
an excuse ! Only a masochist would try the Brabham - way too much torque for

The brabham probably deserves to go behind the Ferrari...
Lotus
Eagle
Ferrari
Brabham
Honda
Cooper
BRM
Of course this list changes a lot based on track...but the ferrari tends to
be faster than the brabham at a lot of tracks.
JB
I like the Eagle the best but i find around some of the
tighter tracks it feels like driving a bus (Zanvoort) and
tracks like that. I'm not in love with the Ferrari but it sounds
so good i drive it anyways and the Brabham seems to me
to be down on horsepower alot, the Lotus is beautiful but
don't over rev it.

I was assigned the Brabham in John Simmons late, lamented IGPS3 series and
actually grew to rather like the "Aussie Toad". I ended up setting many of my
personal bests using the it. Other than Spa and Kyalami (Eagle), Monza and
Silverstone (Lotus), and the Ring (Ferrari), my personal bests at the other
six original tracks are in Brabham.

As for the Ferrari being the best 'all-rounder', I think what this means is
that it doesn't have the reliability problems for races that the Eagle and
Lotus have. Both the Eagle and Lotus are a bit quicker just about
everywhere than the Ferrari. If you were going for a PB or running a novice
race, then the Eagle would be a better bet than the Ferrari, on pure speed.
I find the Eagle a very driveable car, but there's no doubt that the Cooper,
BRM, Honda and Ferrari are all a little more forgiving.

I'm not sure if that means I'm adaptable or not... :)

Well slap some leather on me and... Errr, I mean, torque GOOOOOD. :)
Okay, granted you have to lay low on the loud pedal (and/or get a set
with a long travel).
That aside I find I can throw the Brabham around better then the rest
of the carset... Of course it sucks when your coming on to the back
straight with a Lotus on your butt, it's lacking a bit of top end, but
hey I made that choice in real life as well. (I drive an Integra
Type-R, it's *GREAT* for throwing around on the solo track, but
Vette's, RamAir's, and Stage 3 mustangs still take me in a straight
line... Well, okay, the Vette's take take me in the corners too. :)

Interesting discussion. I've done most of my GPLing with the
Eagle, having started with the Brabham and used the Lotus
for one or two of the faster tracks, where I really needed the
power (that was my perception).
The biggest difference I've noticed Eagle-to-Lotus, particularly
if I jump straight from one to the other, is that the Lotus won't
turn in if I've got used to the Eagle - particularly in the faster
corners, like the kink at Rouen. It just seems to require a
different driving style (can't say how) since I eventually adjust
to the Lotus and I suspect it's generally quicker.

I first felt that the Cooper pushed too much there when I tried it, but
fiddled around with the bars some and got it to behave a little better.
With the Ferrari (well, with the Cooper too), I trail brake quite a bit
at the Ring to help it turn in. And by trail brake, I mean continue
a little pressure on the brake while turning, not the gas+brake thing
that some people mean by the term.

Hmm, I started playing this game last November, and made my first GPLRank

but then, I had farther to go... ;-)

The Eagle turns in more than the Lotus? I always think the Lotus is quicker to

Isn't it nice that after 3 years there are still newbies picking up the game?
Thx again for GPL, Papy

I don't find the Lotus too difficult. Try the early nunnini-setups.

Dunno, always get headache when driving this car

Might be, but only with the right setups - which I don't have

Copper is excellent for learning.
Honda is something for masochists, but there are quite a few out there.

Very nice car, has alotta torque and is quite narrow (important for Monaco)

You will have tons of problems to get used to the 6 gears, after having learned
a track on 5 gears

Start with the cooper and then go for either the Brabham or the Lotus.
Thats only my personal view.
Most important: Have fun

Richard,
try Nunnini's setups.
His setups are like an evolution. the 3-series is quite easy and predictable,
while I'm almost not able to drive the 5-series.
