Clermont-Ferrand GPL movie wows the newsgroup

Posters praised a GPL video set to classical music at the in-progress Clermont-Ferrand track; Rick Osborn said he made it and credited Martijn Keizer and the GPLEA for the track. ymenard explained how edited car cameras create crane-like shots, and a side argument broke out over download speeds.

Rick Osborne made this. He's also making the track. Clermont Ferrand rik anthrax wrote:

All I can say is "WOW" this is like Fantasia on wheels. I hope someone in power at Sierra watches this and gets the open wheel racing juices flowing again, as in Legends II :) "rik anthrax" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:hVXH6.5730$[email hidden]...

Hooray! The classic kilobits (k) vs kilobytes (K) misunderstanding. :) Have at it lads... MRSisson -- LOAD "GPL",8,1 RUN
OK, let's do the math: 1349385 = about 1.3MB 1.3MB in 5.27 seconds = about .25 MB/second So at that speed 22MB will take about 90 seconds, or a minute and a half. Not 20 seconds. p.s. Hey Rik, sorry I haven't hosted that Glacier race I've been promising. Work has been a bit crazy lately, and any GPL time has been taken up with league practise... But the video started playing after 20 sec. and it was finished by the time it was over!

Can we find out what his system specs and such are? This is truly beautiful. How did he get those moving helicopter like cam angles? dave henrie looked fsaa'd to me or is that just high screen resolution? "rik anthrax" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:hVXH6.5730$[email hidden]...

Oh so then since the video started playing for me about 2 secs after I hit the link I guess my download speed is 10x faster than yours. Rik, do you know George Ojeda by chance? "rik anthrax" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:ni2I6.224966$[email hidden]...

>"Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote > Can we find out what his system specs and such are? This is truly > beautiful. How did he get those moving helicopter like cam angles? > dave henrie Simple, yet difficult at the same time. You can edit a car camera so that it point somewhere else then the car itself. That way, you can create a virtual crane that lets you do some nice pans and other effects. With the field-of-view adjustements, you can push it even further. The Spa shot per example has a driver on the pitroad when the race starts, then up the left hill at Eau Rouge. The scene cuts because it's obvious he's soon going to wreck ;-) I find the idea really remarkable, as you use a crane and you really need to be "there" with the other drivers. You need to drive hard not only to keep up with the pack but to pick up realistic passing, crashes, etc.. As for those great Nurburgring shots from the rear of the car, I'm almost sure there is some post-production edits to create some effects here (sideway panning on a portion of a screen, using a smaller frame then the whole picture to create shiver effects). -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.ymenard.com/ -- This announcement is brought to you by the Shimato Dominguez Corporation - helping America into the New World...

Hi there I made the Clermont - Ferrand video but you should really be saying wow to Martijn Keizer who recreated this wonderful track along with help from others in the GPLEA. The track has a long way to go before completion (that's why there's no trees, objects and what have you). Glad to see you enjoyed the video. Btw, the video with classical music is made by Sam Dobie. I've made some car cams like the ones in that movie. I'll be uploading them on my web site over the weekend. By not having the car they're attached to in view, they give a much more dynamic appearance to the car cam. Kev
