What 'PO' means in online race chat

A newcomer asked what 'PO' means in online chat, and was told it means pit out, with variants such as POFT for full tanks. Posters debated when to send it and whether it helps, and the thread ended in Star Wars jokes.

Hi all, What does "PO" mean? I've seen people type it on the chat screen when racing online. Thanks. Michael Lowery

It means and stands for Pit Out. -- Ian P <email invalid due to spam> Morgan Boof <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:HYzK6.10119$[email hidden]... > He asked what it meant...NOT what it stood for..!! > > Now..try again.. > > Morgan Boof > >
PO means: "Please allow me some room, as I am about to exit the pits and might be an Obstruction. Thank you." Much simpler to type PO :) Jason. Hmmmm. I always thought it meant... "Hello. I'm not familiar with this whole racing thing, and I've not quite got the knack of that(those) thingamabob(s) that shows(<x]) me what's behind me. I'm about to drive haphazardly out of the pits and dive immediately for the racing line. At which point you'll probably smash into me at a high rate of closure. I will then be astonished at your complete disregard for my desire to have fun, and cuss you out for being an idiot." ;-) Randy "Jason Monds" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Ok, now we are into it - WHEN do you issue a proper PO ? before you even enter the track? while you are standing in your pit stall? when you start moving? when you exit pit lane? when you are about to join the racing line? Calis
Usually when I am in my pit stall I will set it up, then I press enter as I am heading down pit road to exit. This I have found to give the people I am racing with a little advanced heads up. - Isotrip

Somewhere at those points would be fine :) Imo shouting PO is quite useless though. Andre

>Imo shouting PO is quite useless though. Racing only in non-pickup GPL races, I can only speak from my experience in them. I find PO etc. useful. For example, at Watkins Glen where the pit entrance is straight onto the racing line if I see PO I know to stay wide. This is true at several tracks where the pits have similar exits. Also with GPL rear view can be severely restricted when exiting the pits, so a warning is all to the good. Maybe it would be better if everyone approaching s/f would shout AF (Approaching Finish) ;-) The pit out people would know they'd better wait a bit... Even better would be for pit out people to check in advance if they will get a clear track. It can be done in the garage of course, and from inside the cockpit you can press v and shift-v to move 1 car up or down the track, then control-v to return to your own car and blast away. I think it was "Luke, pull up" and it was in the first Star Wars movie where Luke was on his last bombing run on the Death Star. He left it pretty late, and everybody was worried Our Hero would go up in smoke, but he pulled it off in true Lucas fashion! p.s. I have lost count of how many times I've seen Star Wars. I've even seen it in French, which I don't even speak... "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Bd_K6.3231$[email hidden]...
